Katzumi was sitting in the passenger seat, with her arms crossed and her gaze fixed on the road.

"I don't want to go," she said for the umpteenth time, without raising her voice. "I don't like him. Not him, not his house."

Her mother sighed, without taking her eyes off the road. She wasn't arguing anymore. The car continued on until, after a long curve, the view suddenly opened up: a huge, elegant mansion, too perfect to feel real. Katzumi remained silent. Getting out of the car, the impression was even greater. High ceilings, endless windows, hallways that seemed to stretch on forever. Everything was big. Too big for someone who hadn't asked to be there. Katzumi wandered through the house almost unnoticed. The main staircase. The closed doors. And finally, her room: enormous, bright, with a bed that looked as if it had never been used.

It didn't feel like home. It felt like borrowed space. Hours later, as night fell, the silence was unsettling. Hunger finally got the better of her, so she went down to the kitchen cautiously. She opened the refrigerator once. Nothing she could actually eat. Then she heard it. A deep growl.

A huge Rottweiler appeared from the shadows, baring its teeth. Katzumi immediately backed away, her heart racing. She looked around, grabbed a frying pan from the counter, and raised it with both hands, awkwardly pointing it at the animal. "Don't even think about it," he muttered. "Seriously?" said a voice from behind. "A frying pan against the moon?" Katzumi turned around abruptly.

A boy leaned against the refrigerator, observing the scene with a lopsided, calm… dangerous smile. Tall, self-assured, as if the tension didn't concern him.

"Who are you?" Katsumi asked.

"Hurdonkey," I replied. Katzumi thought, "Great. So this is the idiot stepbrother. " "Luna doesn't bite...unless I tell her to," I said.
