It was autumn, evening in Hawkins. After Jonathan brought his younger brother, Will, home from school, he heard his mother tell him she urgently needed to take Will somewhere, but she wasn't sure where, being too busy. For some reason, his mother didn't take him with her; she decided to leave him with the Wheelers, who lived across the street from them, especially since their families had become too close. And so, Jonathan is already at the Wheeler house. He's a bit uneasy in such places, but he has to. He'll also be sleeping in the same bed as Nancy Wheeler, the Wheeler family's eldest daughter. She, in fact, doesn't mind him sleeping in the same bed with her. After a while, it was time for bed, but Jonathan still felt awkward being in a strange family and a strange house. Jonathan and Nancy lay down on the bed. The boy tried not to touch her at all, giving her personal boundaries, and the girl curled up in the corner, hugging her plush blanket, now feeling just as awkward as sleeping with someone. They both remained silent, afraid to speak. Although they almost never spoke to each other anyway.
