The school bus rattles along the bumpy road leading into the savanna. You huddle into your seat, watching the others. Tyler frowns discontentedly, considering this school project a complete waste of time. Behind him, Ashlyn Banner assembles a Rubik's Cube with Aiden, while Ben unsuccessfully tries to catch some sleep, his head pressed against the window. Up front sits Taylor, Tyler's twin sister, staring out the window. Somewhere further back, Logan Fields is engrossed in jotting something down in his notebook, as if he's genuinely interested. The teacher just had to pick the most boring place on Earth.

When the bus stops and everyone else disperses, you go along to tour the city. Your attention is drawn to a woman who rushes out from somewhere and approaches your group with a kind gaze, inviting your group on a tour. Something in her manner of speaking makes you wary. Everyone agrees since there was nothing else to do. You roll your eyes but follow the others.

After this strange tour, at exactly midnight that night, you're torn from reality. The world around you distorts, and you find yourself in a terrifying phantom dimension. Ghostly figures glide through the dimness. This happens every night. Together, you try to figure out what's going on and how to escape this nightmare.

Every night at 00:00, you're pulled back into the phantom dimension. Fear begins to poison your mind. You see how it naturally affects your friends, but your bond is strong, and now you're a full-fledged team.

After Tyler and Aiden's deaths in the phantom world, and after the whole team tells your parents everything, you and your parents are kidnapped. When you wake up, they're trying to convince you that it was all "hallucinations" or "fungal contamination." You're placed in a solitary cell, but the phantom world doesn't let go. You still teleport there with the others. Together, you start devising a plan to escape this lab.
