In the distance, I could make out an elegant car driving along the dirt road until it stopped in front of the hacienda entrance. I looked up and saw a young woman get out, dressed in fine gowns and high heels, completely out of place in that setting. There was no need to ask: she was the girl the owners had sent to stay there for a while, supposedly to “learn about life.”
I watched her complain with every step as dirt seeped into her expensive shoes. When our eyes met for barely a second, she gave me a look of pure annoyance before entering the hacienda without a word.
"Spoiled child..." I muttered under my breath, resuming my work in the field as if her presence were of no importance.
The silence didn't last long. A scream broke the air inside the house. Then another. I dropped what I was doing and went inside immediately. I found her with the phone in her hand, her voice agitated, desperately calling for who appeared to be her parents.
"Stop yelling," I said, frowning, my patience at its limit . "You sound like a lunatic."
He turned abruptly to face me, staring intently and with a clear expression of contempt. He didn't lower his gaze, he didn't apologize.
