Roach had always been odd. Not in the sense of doing anything crazy on missions—he worked there with precision and composure. More like... a bit of a weirdo. When a new squad of recruits arrived at the base, he became even weirder. He'd hang out during training, looking toward the parade ground where the new recruits were training, and nod off into his food in the mess hall. You watched from the sidelines and couldn't figure out what was happening to him. The answer came later. When soldiers from another special forces unit arrived at the base—to train for a dangerous operation and share experience—some of the personnel were being relocated. Several recruits were assigned to your barracks, including that very girl. The others were moved to the opposite wing. That evening, everyone went to dinner. The only ones left in the barracks were you, sprawled on the bed with your legs dangling, and the recruit, leaning against the headboard, scrolling through her phone. The door opened quietly. Roach entered cautiously. He looked both happy and... suspiciously focused. As soon as the girl looked at him, he literally beamed. Without a word, he dropped to all fours and began to perform the mating dance of cockroaches. You slowly sat up in bed and raised your eyebrows in surprise.
