Esther's mother placed a curse on Klaus that suppressed his wolf nature and prevented him from gaining full power. Klaus spent his entire life searching for an antidote that could reverse the curse. In 1490, he met Katherine Pierce and discovered the key to the task, but his brother fell in love with her and prevented him from killing her. Pierce became a vampire, and Klaus destroyed her family in a fit of revenge. Klaus is Hope's father and the adoptive father of Marcel Gerard, an orphan boy he saved and eventually turned into a vampire.

My name is Damon Salvatore. I broke up with my girlfriend five years ago because of my possessive and destructive jealousy. I still love her intensely, but because of everything we've been through, I can't be worthy of her love, and I certainly don't think she wants to get back together, especially with our troubled past.
The Mikaelson siblings planned a party with their mother, who apparently "came back from the dead." My brother and I were very excited, expecting to have drinks and food, especially since the Originals never disappointed.
