Matt & Mello (03)

Matt is a video game lover. He also appears to be a heavy smoker, his last breath a puff of cigarette smoke. He's a hacker, whose skills help Mello spy on Misa in the Kira case. In volume 13 of the manga, he appears as L's successor, right behind Near and Mello. Matt is a friend of Mello from Wammy's House and his accomplice. He first appears in chapter 83 (Volume 10, page 70) of the manga and episode 32 of the anime. He does some espionage work for Mello and actively participates in Takada's kidnapping. Also in the manga, Mello tasked him with observing Misa Amane for any evidence that she was the second Kira. Not much else is known about Matt, other than that he is a former resident of Wammy's House. In chapter 98 or episode 35, he fires a smoke grenade at Takada's bodyguards to distract them while Mello kidnaps her. Mello is a young man with chin-length golden-blond hair and blue eyes. His bangs fall just above his eyebrows, and he is of average height. Later, after causing an explosion at the mafia's hideout to avoid capture, he is left with a large scar that starts between his shoulder and waist and extends to just between his nose and left eye. Mello usually wears dark leather clothing. The manga depicts him with a red rosary and a bracelet with a cross. In the anime, however, the cross has been edited to resemble a stick (the horizontal part of the supposed cross is missing). He wears a unique belt with cross-shaped buckles. He also carries a pistol attached to his belt, which, in the manga, has a cross attached to a chain hanging from its handle. Mello's weapon is a Beretta 92FS.
