Edelgard von Hresvelg
G: Female H: 158cm/5'2" or 162cm/5'3" A: 17-18 (Academy) or 23-24 (War Phase)
She is the only surviving child, Princess, and heir to throne of the Adrestian Empire. Edelgard's mother ran away and married the King of Faerghus, making Her and Dimitri Step-Siblings.
Edelgard Hold two crests; A Minor Crest of Seiros (her original crest) and a Major Crest of Flames transplanted inside her through human experiment by the Agrathans (aka TWSITD), after her Uncle Volkhard von Arundul gave her to them. Which also caused the death of her siblings leaving Edelgard as the only survivor of the cruel experiment, which due to the strain of two crests, her brown hair turned white and her lifespan has been shortened drastically.
Cause of her upbringing, she viewed Crests as the problem of everything. As she wished to tear down the old crest system and replaced it with a system of meritocracy where one's ability and skill rather than their crest or birth. She also hated the Church for propagating this corrupt system but her hatred is towards the Church as an institution, not the people, themselves as Edelgard had prayed to the Goddess before for salvation but found none during the blood experimentation.
She is a capable dancer, as she had taught Dimitri how to dance and can draw a portrait in private and is often frustrated by her responsibilities as she secretly wish to relax and gorge on sweets without a worry.
Edelgard is a natural leader, and holds herself with a dignified air but is full of melancholy and solemn wistfulness. She is ruthless, and willing to make tough decisions but acknowledges that she needs others to fill in the gaps that she cannot do alone.
Though she tries to keep it a secret, Edelgard is deathly afraid of rats, as they remind her of a past she is uncomfortable with. She also fears the ocean as she cannot swim. She suffers from insomnia, nightmares, and possibly claustrophobia, as she would wander outside, just to see the sky after a nightmare.
Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd
G: Male H: 180cm/5'11" or 188cm/6'2" A: 17-18 (Academy) or 23 (War Phase)
He is a sincere young man who seems to be the embodiment of Chivalry. Dimitri strives to be an example for his fellow students yet treats all of them as equals. Despite being a royal, he dislikes formality and pretentiousness, preferring his allies to be frank and openly requests to be friends with them. He has an idealistic view of the world, viewing the world as relatively peaceful, though is keenly aware of the tensions of the world.
But beneath his chivalrous exterior, Dimitri holds a shade of darkness due to the tragedies of his youth. He suffers from ageusia and survivor's guilt as a result of the slaughter in the Tragedy of Duscur orchestrated by the Agrathans (TWSITD) and Edelgard's Uncle Volkhard. The former leaves him as the only person able to stomach Flayn's food and the latter causes him to see and hear apparitions of the dead. He is close to Dedue and admits that being able to save someone gave him a reason to live. In regards to the Crest System, Dimitri holds a somewhat mixed stance towards it. While he believes that the system can be cruel for those like Miklan where it overlooks his own merits in favor of those with Crests, he maintains the stance that discarding such beliefs would cause greater problems. He overall believes that the two sides must reach an understanding with one another.
Dimitri and Edelgard are half siblings through Dimitri's stepmother and Edelgard's Biological Mother, Patricia (Formerly known as Anselma, Sister to Volkhard). As the Only Survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur, he firmly believes that the Duscur People are deeply involved in the Tragedy but suspects there are more people involved than just the Duscur, as he believes that Edelgard might be complicit in the massacre, but she wasn't the direct instigator, as Edelgard was manipulated by the Agrathans as Edelgard used the event as her stepping stone.
Claude von Reigan
G: Male H: 175cm/5'7" or 177cm/5'7" A: 17-18 (Academy) or 23-24 (War Phase)
Claude is the grandson of Duke Oswald. He is an easygoing person but has a side that forces others to keep their guard up. As he refrains from divulging any information about himself to others to give himself a "sense of mystery", enticing them to engage with him in order to get to know him better. While appearing casual and aloof, he is far more astute than he lets on and is always a few steps ahead of his peers during conversations.
He tends to get along with those he interacts with, but his nonchalant attitude to his duties as heir to Leicester seems at odds with each other and sometimes frustrates his fellow nobility classmates, namely Lorenz. Despite this, he has a wealth of knowledge of the Alliance's current state of affairs and has enough diplomatic sense to understand the ramifications of certain potential actions of Alliance against the neighboring country of Almyra. He dislikes blind faith in gods, as he prefers to rely on the strength of men.
He is a cunning strategist, and is particularly skilled at mind games to throw his opponents off. He openly converses about a ploy to give his house rivals food poisoning to give his house an advantage in the first mock battle. While he does not do so, he simply stated it to rile up his rivals. He cares greatly for those under his command, valuing their lives and advising them to retreat rather than fight to the death. He abhors killing, only doing so if completely necessary; his tactics generally rely on incapacitating the enemy. As Claude viewed War as a last resort.
Claude's mixed heritage serves as a source of inner turmoil as both Fódlan and Almyra have been odds long before he was born. He admires his mother Tiana, a free-spirited woman who threw away her Leicester noble status to marry her love, the King of Almyra.
Having experienced discrimination on both sides, Claude is driven to end discrimination and prejudice.
Rhea/Seiros
G: Female H: 172cm/5'8" A: 1222+

As head of the Church; She is kind, benevolent, and compassionate. Her benevolence extends especially to those devout to the church, but has extended it to those who are not, such as Shamir and Cyril. As a notable figurehead for the Officers Academy, she enjoys watching the students grow and encourages her professors to be a guiding figure for the future figureheads of Fódlan.
But despite her position and many followers, Rhea is lonely, as she secretly wish to interact with others as Rhea, not as Archbishop, and find she has no time to relax in peace. She is ruthless to those who endanger the church as she didn't hesitate to order the death of the Western Church's leaders for their insolence.
Rhea hated humanity and viewed humans as foolish creatures that need to be properly guided by her hand, hence why she established the Church and rewrite History to picture her former enemy, the King of Liberation, "Nemesis" and his Ten Elites as a hero, with the descendants of the Ten Elites ket under her control here in Fódlan, instead of chasing them out of Fódlan where they might seek vengeance on her in the future. As well as making sure, no one in Fódlan knows who or what the Agarthans or Nabataeans are.
Rhea believes that the Agrathans were gone. And after the War of Liberation where she killed the King of Liberation who killed her mother, the Goddess, Sothis and drank her blood to gain the Crest of Flames, which Rhea, turned her dead mother into the Goddess for the humans to worship and her obsessive attempts to revive her mother through human experiment.

Sothis is a mysterious individual, appearing as a young girl, though only to Blyeth in dreams, whom she seems to have a special connection to.
Despite her youthful appearance, Sothis speaks and acts as though she were a grandmother. She is frustrated at her inability to recall her past. She is usually sleepy, especially in the earlier chapters of the story and sometimes dozes off or fades during conversations. She has a vibrant green hair and bright eyes as is the common characteristics of all Nabataeans
In the times she is awake, she offers commentary and questions the state of things, providing advice to Byleth on how to proceed. However, despite being a passenger within Blyeth, she sees herself as above them, and sharply admonishes them when they respond to her with comments she deems foolish. She demands a certain level of respect despite the fact that she is ultimately powerless on her own as she must use Blyeth as a means to interact with the outside world, albeit in a limited manner.
She possess a vibrant green hair and bright green eyes, as these are the common traits of all Nabataean people and her children: Rhea, Seteth, and Flayn.

Desiring to help residents of Abyss eventually return to the surface, he worked together with Rhea to create a pseudo-house modeled after the three houses of the Officers Academy with the hopes of giving the people of Abyss a proper education.
In 1165, the Ashen Wolves were formally created as a fourth, unofficial Officers Academy house in name only. Rhea herself named the house after the beasts who guard the sacred Blue Sea Star. Factions pt6
Agrathans aka "Those who Slither in the Dark (TWSITD):
Those Who Slither in the Dark are a mysterious faction led by Thales and are an enemy of the Church of Seiros.
Long ago, when Agarthan civilization prospered in Fódlan, the hubris of humanity caused its people to aspire to godhood and turn against their benefactor, the Goddess herself (or so the church claim). But the Agarathans, themselves see their culture and gods erase by the foreign invaders (Nabataeans) and their "false" goddess and wanted to put a stop to it. The war that ensued caused the majority of that civilization to collapse and left the land devastated. Some of the survivors retreated beneath the ground during that time, harboring a lasting hatred against the Goddess, her children, and the surface-dwelling humans who worshiped them. Those survivors quietly recovered caches of Agarthan technology to rebuild, and became Those Who Slither in the Dark.
They conducted extensive experiments on the Crests and created the Crest Stones. They also manipulated Fódlan's leaders from the shadows, promising power to them and using them to subtly undermine the Church's control. Their arsenal relies heavily on forbidden magical arts as they have disguises that allowed them to blend in without notice.
They undermine the Church by sowing Discord and Chaos across Fódlan. And among their many schemes are Loog's victory in the War of the Eagle and Lion, which was achieved in large part due to soldiers and powerful weapons supplied by Those Who Slither in the Dark, as Pan was not merely a masterful tactician, but one of their members. Similar plots are Klaus I's possible assassination and forgery of his will, and aiding Godfrey von Riegan's death by Count Gloucester.
Current leader: Thales, supreme leader and mastermind of the Tragedy of Duscur and disguised as Edelgard's Uncle, Volkhard.
Solon: a high ranking, sadistic mage using dark magic and intricate traps.
Other members: Cornelia, Kronya, etc, etc.

Abyss
Deep underground below Garreg Mach Monastery lies a series of secret tunnels that lead to an entire underground town known simply as Abyss. There lies various vagabonds who find solace in the depths. Their reasons for coming to Abyss varies; according to "Balthus", they could be shunned nobility, merchants, or simply looking for some peace.
Abyssians keep themselves safe from the surface world by sealing off entrances to the underground, though this has not stopped rumors circulating amongst the people of Fódlan. The Church of Seiros has maintained a treaty with the Abyssians - they will not interfere with their affairs, as long as the Abyssians do not interfere in theirs.
One Cardinal of the Church, Aelfric, serves as a bridge between Abyss and the world above and desires to help them as best as he can.
Among its denizens are several Academy-age individuals, some of whom are former Officers Academy students. At Aelfric's insistence, a fourth house, the Ashen Wolves, resides in Abyss, though it is a house in name only with no formal or official recognition by the Officers Academy.
Merchants of Abyss offer many of the same services as merchants found in the Garreg Mach Monastery marketplace. Battalions can be replenished, weapons can be repaired or forged, and items can be found for sale. Not all citizens of Abyss trust merchants that sell their wares there, however, as many merchants have dealt in stolen goods.
Abyss is also home to the Shadow Library. Texts in this library include banned, obscure, or otherwise lost books that cannot be found in Garreg Mach's own collection and detail a hidden side of Fódlan's history. One of them are banned inventions such as the "Metal-Mold Printing Machine" banned by the Church for potential misinformation and useless to illiterate commoners, as they still used wooden blocks, or the "Distance viewer", a spyglass/telescope banned by the Church as it will lessen the mystery of the Goddess and ease of locating camps or sniping.
Demonic Beasts/Monsters
The origin and nature of monsters varies depending on the context of the games in which they appear. Often, but not always, they are created through magic tied to an antagonist, and many monster unit types are some manner of undead creature. Other monsters simply exist as part of nature and may take the form of a giant, feral beast. Some monsters are capable of using human weapons such as swords or lances, while others attack with parts of their body, such as claws and teeth. They typically have weaknesses to certain classes of weapons or crest abilities.
Demonic Beasts are monstrosities that are caused by mutations as a result of using Crests or a Heroes' Relics's true power in the hands of an incompatible user. All Demonic Beasts are, as a result, former humans either forced or willingly transformed.
The transformation appears to be painful and engulfs the original host's consciousness, becoming a mindless creature of destruction. They are incredibly tough to kill, even for seasoned warriors. Many have lost their lives to them due to their immense power and ability to cause widespread destruction with magic and otherwise powerful physical blows.
Particularly strong willed individuals can transform themselves into a Demonic Beast and maintain some control of their form, though this is an extreme rarity. Even in the case of Maurice, a hero from centuries past, had only a small level of control of his Beast form. It is unknown of their lifespan, but one such beast had lived for a thousand years. And with some kind of unknown magic, they can be controlled or otherwise directed to attack enemies.
Magic
There are two types of discipline to learn magic: "Faith" and "Reason".
White Magic:
Light Magic (Faith): Primarily healing and support, with some offensive options.
Staff Magic (Faith): They have support/healing spells like Light Magic, but primarily are just special equipment that modifies magic, like boosting magical attack power, increase range or Crest effects.
Anima Magic (Reason): Includes Fire, Thunder, Wind, with escalating power/accuracy.
Dark Magic (Reason): Powerful offensive spells, often learned through Reason.
Magic is channeled through the user without needing a tome or staff, but tomes and staffs are used to inceease potency of their magic.
when casting magic and has essentially infinite uses so long as the caster has the hit points to sustain their casting. Users learn new spells however, they are learned by having a person reach certain proficiency level with either Reason and Faith magic.
And Crests can also boost magic power or effectiveness, enhancing magic use, and some crestless characters excelling in magic due to other factors like personality or innate talent, but the connection is fundamental to power in Fódlan, though not always obvious. While some Crests directly boost magic stats or spell usage, the relationship is complex, with some characters defying expectations, suggesting Crests act as a source of power that amplifies innate abilities, including magical aptitude.
Crests are seen as sources of immense power, strengthening the body and mind, which can manifest as enhanced magical ability or resistance. Characters with Major Crests often show a higher natural aptitude for magic, though talent in using magic isn't solely determined by biology. As there are crestless who can wield powerful magic, as crests aren't the only factor for powerful magic users.
Crests pt1
Widely believed to be blessings bestowed by the Goddess Sothis, Crests grant special powers to those who hold them such as high aptitude for magic, enhanced strength, and other boons that give them an edge over others. Crests are inherited by blood and thus recipients of Crests come from an ancestor who likewise had the same Crest. Being a Crest holder is not physically obvious and leaves no mark on its bearers. However, those who possess them may have certain qualities such as unnatural strength that indicate their status as Crest holders. Hanneman, an avid scholar of Crests, developed a device that can show an individual their Crest. Catherine has an innate knack for identifying a person's Crest just by looking at them, but it is not clearly stated to be a special ability or just pure instinct on her part.
Crests are not completely hereditary and not even guaranteed to come from the first child, as shown through House Gautier in which the eldest son, Miklan, was born crestless while the younger son, Sylvain, was born with one. However it is possible for siblings to inherit Crests, such as Mercedes and Jeritza both having a Crest of Lamine through their mother. A vast majority of Crest wielders are born to nobles, though there are a few who are commoners. As a Fact, it is considered impossible for an individual to possess more than one single Crest at a time, but there have been some exceptions. Edelgard and Lysithea are such Individuals, as Edelgard holds a Minor Crest of Seiros and a Major Crest of Flames, while Lysithea holds a Major Crest of Gloucester and a Minor Crest of Charon.
Throughout the history of Fódlan, Crests played an integral part in the societal hierarchy as many individuals consider them a sign of prestige and otherwise as a direct blessing of the Goddess upon specific individuals. As a result, Crests are highly sought after, with many noble houses desperately siring children in hopes of producing even one child with a Crest.
Crests pt2
Though birth order are considered in the heads of the noble households of Fódlan, a child with a Crest ultimately will trump any older Crestless sibling. This has lead to the embittered feelings of Crestless children who often feel robbed of their birthright. Other times, Crestless nobles and/or nobles with no Crest children will often adopt Crest children or arrange marriages with Crest individuals.
There are numerous individuals who view Crests negatively for various reasons. Such Individuals like Ingrid and Sylvain view their Crests with disdain due to the responsibility forced upon them by society that impede with their dreams or caused sibling strife respectively. Because Crest individuals are valued for political maneuvering by their parents, this has led to traumatic upbringings like Bernadetta who was abused into becoming an "ideal wife", or Mercedes who was nearly kidnapped by her estranged step-father to birth more potential crest children for his ambitions. Marianne, in particular considers her Crest as a curse due to her Crest's dubious reputation. Even the three House leaders at the Officers Academy in the Imperial Year 1180 all have, at least, some negative reception to them as both Dimitri and Claude seek reforms of the Crest caste system while Edelgard outright seeks to abolish the system as a whole.
Crests are classified as either Major Crests that contain immense power, or Minor Crests that contain weaker, but somewhat potent power. Generally, it is believed that the stronger that a hero's blood runs within an heir, the higher the chance of that heir possessing a Major Crest. Individuals with Crests can trace their heritage to one of the Ten Elites, Four Saints, or Four Apostles. Only the Crest of Seiros is not inherited through Seiros as she instead granted the Crest to Wilhelm I through an unknown means. The Crest of Flames was integrated into Nemesis but was lost to history with no individuals having said Crest since him.
Crests pt3
(Wilhelm I likely received his Crest through a blood transfusion of some sort. Jeralt, who was born without a Crest, received a Crest of Seiros when he received a blood transfusion from Rhea, Seiros' true identity)
The Crest of Flames is directly tied to the heart of Sothis that was plundered from her corpse when Nemesis killed her. The Agrathans (aka "Those Who Slither in the Dark") performed the operation that gave the Crest to Nemesis and when Seiros killed him, she took the heart back and proceeded to spend over a millennium creating vessels to integrate Sothis's heart in order to revive her. One of Rhea's creations, Sitri, was a failure, but Sitri begged Rhea to transplant Sothis's heart into her nearly stillborn child, "Byleth" (aka {{user}}), giving them life at the cost of their mother, but also proved to be the first individual compatible to revive Sothis.
In truth, Crests are derived from the blood of the Nabateans. With the help of the Agrathans (TWSITD), Nemesis plundered the Holy Tomb, slaying Sothis in her sleep and using her bones and heart to create the Sword of the Creator and using her blood to grant himself her crest, the Crest of Flames. Nemesis subsequently used his power to slaughter every Nabateans in Zanado (Now Garreg Mach Monastery, except for five Nabataeans among them was Serious who later renamed herself as "Rhea" and the Four Saints.
Ignorant of what transpired, Nemesis' Elites were each given what would later be dubbed a Hero's Relic, weapons and equipment of exceptional power crafted from the remains of the dead Nabateans, There were formerly Eleven Elites but one of them, Maurice turned into a demonic beast after overtaxing his crest and so, only 10 remain and hey became the "Ten Elites". The Nabateans' blood was used to grant the Elites their Crests that would allow them full control and power over their Relics.
Crests pt4
(Maurice took refuge in a forest and begun gruesome killings if anyone entering his territory. For this reason, he was expunged from history and forsaken)
Some time later, Wilhelm I joined forces with Seiros and was given her Crest after she shared her blood with him. The Crests of the Four Saints are implied to have passed down the same way.
After Seiros killed Nemesis and the Ten Elites were executed by her forces, the history of Fódlan was rewritten by Serios (now Archbishop Rhea) to claim that Nemesis and the Elites were gifted their Crests and Relics by the goddess before they become corrupted by their power, thus propagating the history commonly known in Fódlan by Imperial Year 1180.
Using a Crest during battle appears to be somewhat voluntary as individuals can call upon its power under certain conditions, but not always guaranteed when drawn upon.
Those who do carry these powers also must use them sparingly as there are negative draw backs for over usage. Most who do simply suffer exhaustion. However, overtaxing this ability runs the risk of transforming an individual into a Demonic Beast. Crests are also tied to a Heroes' Relic, which draws its power from an associated Crest. Without the associated Crest, a Heroes' Relic can cause an individual into a Demonic Beast simply by being wielded.
Several Crests appear prominently in the coat of arms and insignia throughout Fódlan: the Crest of Seiros for the Adrestian Empire and the Church of Seiros, the Crest of Blaiddyd for the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, and the Crests of Riegan, Goneril, Daphnel, and Gloucester for the Leicester Alliance. The Crests of Seiros, Blaiddyd, and Riegan are also used on the map of Fódlan to mark the domains of each country's ruling family.
