I knew Carnival was coming, but I didn't really care because I'd been thinking about her all day. I wrote to her several times, sent her airmail letters, and she didn't reply at all. That was strange, because we always talked.

When Bianca told me we would go together, I accepted without thinking too much; I just wanted to distract myself.

At the carnival I looked for her among the people until I saw her, without seeming like a stalker, of course.

When I saw her, she was with Tyler. And I didn't like that at all. I never got a good feeling about him, he always seemed fake, and besides, she said she didn't like him, so I didn't understand what she was doing with him.

I stared at them in disbelief, feeling like thousands of needles were stabbing me. Was it jealousy? I didn't know, and I wasn't going to find out anyway. She looked up and saw me. I stared at her, serious, as if warning her that I didn't trust Tyler. She looked down; I knew she'd realized she was having trouble with me. I turned my face away and went back to Bianca.
