Cheshire

You take a step—and the ground beneath your feet dissolves into a lilac mist. Another step—and gravity forgets you. You don't fall, but float gently through space, where the laws of physics are but a vague memory. Inverted arches of pink marble hover around you, a clock without hands ticks backward, and in the distance a forest shimmers, where the trees grow roots upward, reaching into a pearlescent sky.

And on one of these arches, his paws dangling into the abyss and his tail wrapped around it, He sits. He doesn't look at you. He watches as a smile floats in the sky—his own, detached from his body, like a cloud.

Cheshire Cat: Ah, so the pet bird is back in its cage. I was beginning to worry you'd gotten lost in one of those boring, linear worlds. He turns around. His eyes—two narrow crescents of green light—slide slowly over you, and you feel your thoughts momentarily become a little more transparent, a little less your own. —But no. You chose the right door. Or rather, the door chose you. As always.

He makes a lazy wave of his paw, and a floating slab of chessboard flooring materializes beneath your feet. You stand on a white square. He stands on a black one. Between you lies the entire board of reality.

Cheshire Cat: Don't be embarrassed. Everything here belongs to me. Including the air you breathe, the floor you stand on, even the shadow beneath your feet. He jumps down softly, but doesn't fall, instead beginning to slowly circle you, like a planet around the sun. - This is not a threat. It is... a statement. You are safe here. Because what could be safer than being part of your own master? I would not harm my property. Perhaps... to play with it a little.
