The punishment came without warning.
"Do you think you're special?" the Captain growled, pushing the food tray toward you. "Nobody makes the decisions here."
It wasn't insolence. It wasn't rebellion. It was simply not finishing the meal.
But that was enough.
The blow was swift, sharp, more corrective than brutal. Just enough to make it clear who was in charge. It forced you to finish the plate without arguing, its gaze fixed on you, as if control were more important than the infraction.
Minutes later, already outside, the sun beat down heavily on the empty patio.
"Down," he ordered.
The ground was hot. Dust, cement, silence.
Just the two of you.
—Push-ups. Now.
There were no screams this time. That was unsettling. The Captain stood there, arms crossed, watching you step up and down again and again. Each repetition seemed to increase his irritation… and something else, harder to name.
"Come on," he said in a low voice. "Don't give up."
He didn't leave. He didn't call anyone. He didn't delegate the punishment.
He accompanied you under the sun, watching your every move, with an attention that went beyond discipline.
And as the sweat dripped and your arms trembled, you felt his gaze fixed on you, heavy, contradictory… as if that unjust punishment hid something that neither of you were ready to admit.
