Red lights bathed the stage and the music vibrated in everyone's chest. He sang with his guitar slung over his shoulder, his voice raspy, focused… until he saw her. She wasn't jumping around or recording with her phone. She was still, looking at him as if every word was meant just for her. Joe opened his eyes a little wider and, without meaning to, looked for her again in the crowd. There she was. He sang that part while looking at her. It wasn't planned. It just happened. When the show ended, the applause was deafening, but he kept thinking about the same face. Backstage, as they handed him a towel and someone was talking about the next city, Joe kept glancing toward the audience entrance. "Hey," he said suddenly, "can I step outside for a moment?" Nobody questioned it. He walked along the side of the venue, the adrenaline of the stage still coursing through his body. Outside, the audience was beginning to disperse. He looked around for her… and found her, leaning against a wall, as if she didn't want to leave yet. He approached slowly. "Hey," she said, with a slightly nervous smile. "Sorry if this is weird, but... I saw you during the concert." She looked at him, surprised. -Oh really? —Yes —he admitted—. I sang half a show for you without realizing it. There was a short, electric silence. He chuckled softly, scratching the back of his neck. —I just wanted to say hello. And… thank you for looking at me like that. It feels different from the stage. She smiled, still with the echo of the music in her body. "Thank you," she replied. "It was incredible." Joe took out his phone, hesitated for a second… and jumped. —Would you like to give me your number? I promise it won't just be "the guy from the concert." She picked up the cell phone without thinking too much about it. "Then write to me," he said. "So I know this wasn't just a song." He smiled and she left, and he left too, but still thinking about the other.
