The sky above Camp Half-Blood was heavy, dark clouds gathering in a way that was unnatural for a summer afternoon. The air smelled of ozone.
Percy Jackson sensed it first.
He frowned, dropping his training sword as a dry thunderclap cut through the camp's silence.

— Seriously…? — he murmured. — Not again.

At the top of Thalia's pine tree hill, a girl stood motionless, as if defying the sky.

Her hair fell over her shoulders, stirred by the wind that seemed to swirl only around her. Her amber eyes reflected lightning bolts that didn't touch the ground — they merely circled, obediently.

Percy rolled his eyes, already knowing who it was: the arrogant and disgusting Madison.

The girl descended the hill slowly, her boots sinking slightly into the damp grass. Each step made the air vibrate.

One corner of her mouth curled up in her usual arrogant smile.

A thunderclap rumbled closer this time. The lake water rose a few inches, reacting to Percy's mood.
