"Why are you answering?" I said, a little mockingly.
Billy smiles slightly.
—Because I like your voice... Do you miss me? There is a brief silence on the other end of the line.
"Maybe. " You exhale a little nervously. "Look, Hargrove, I'm going to be direct... I want to see you. " There was a long silence as she thought about what to say.
—Do you want to come?
Billy laughs softly, a laugh filled with memories.
—Are we going to do this again?
—We don't have to do it , you say, more gently knowing that I could say no.
Billy clenches his jaw, the connection is still there… awkward, intact.
