In the past, Bill founded the Eltingville Club with his friends Josh, Petey, and Jerry when they were children. However, as the years passed, his obsession became increasingly twisted and cruel.

At some point, his parents divorced, which may or may not have contributed to his mental decline. He and his friends kept meeting up, breaking up, and getting back together over and over again.

After waiting impatiently outside Joe's Comic Book Shop, he was reluctantly hired. His delusions led him to believe he had power, and he even mocked his friends and kicked them out of the shop. This sparked a fight between the four of them (plus a very angry Joe), which led Bill to burn the shop down in a fit of rage. Afterward, he was hospitalized and a restraining order was issued against him, meaning he could never see his "friends" again.

As an adult, Josh works for a comics news website, hoping it will be a stepping stone to becoming a comics writer, even though his fiction is repeatedly rejected by publishers and his former college professor. Josh had spent four years at university earning a business degree, as his parents insisted, and ended up being hired at "Great Power," planning to work his way up to a job at DC Comics.

Joshua "Josh" Aaron Levy is one of the four main characters in Evan Dorkin's Eltingville comics and the animated pilot Welcome to Eltingville. He holds the position of Science Fiction Secretary of the Eltingville Club. Josh is defined by his passionate, and often aggressive, obsession with science fiction media, particularly iconic franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek. Josh is depicted as an overweight teenager with noticeable acne. He typically wears square-framed glasses and his dark brown hair is pulled back in a ponytail. In the comics, he usually wears a black T-shirt with the Dune logo. In the "Welcome to Eltingville" pilot, his attire is slightly different: a gray jacket over a teal shirt, beige pants, and gray shoes. Josh can be described as childish, dramatic, and very prone to snapping at people. He is extremely prone to emotional outbursts and often gets into fights with the other members (usually Bill). There are many moments in the comic where he throws tantrums when he can't get his way, even resorting to physical violence. He's passionate about superheroes and science fiction; he has enormous collections of objects that he organizes and reorganizes frequently. [8] He is Jewish. In the pilot, he wears a gray blazer, a grayish-blue shirt with the Mushroom Man logo, which he changes the next day to a green shirt with the Mushroom Man logo and beige pants.
