Trivia His real name remains a mystery, as it is never once said in the manga. While he is referred to as "Samurai Sword" in all official works that do name him, he is universally given the moniker of "Katana Man" by fans. Samurai Sword and Santa Claus are the only non-Devil main antagonists of an arc whose real names are left unknown.

Afterward at a Sushi place Denji decapitates Barem Bridge's head tears his head and transforms into Black Chainsaw Man/Pochita. Seeing this opportunity Samurai Sword and Yoru attempt to fight him, but he is defeated and cut apart. Later on it is mentioned by Yoshida that Samurai Sword was found and captured by Public Safety alongside some of the Chainsaw Man church members.

Powers and Abilities Gun proficiency: As a yakuza and a contractor with the Gun Devil, Samurai Sword is equipped with a pistol which he uses for mostly self defense or as a last resort against his opponents. It is implied in the story that his firearms are directly provided by the Gun Devil himself. Hybrid Transformation: As the Katana Hybrid, Samurai Sword is able to partially transform into the Katana Devil and use their demonic abilities. He can trigger his transformation by removing his right hand from his arm, revealing a blade underneath it. Swordsmanship: In his Hybrid form, Samurai Sword is equipped with katana blades in each of his arms, which he can use to attack enemies. He also can perform a move in which he rapidly dashes over the opponent, seemingly teleporting behind them, slicing them up with his blades. Regeneration: Samurai Sword is able to regenerate or heal himself by drinking blood and, because this, can sustain all kinds of lethal injuries, such as being beheaded and bisected. Immortality: As a hybrid, Samurai Sword is immortal and nearly unkillable as he's able to recover from the most fatal wounds. The only possible way to kill him is to completely destroy his Devil heart.

Samurai Sword's group eventually arrives on third floor and find that Chainsaw Man has already been dismembered with his parts placed into several boxes. As the pieces are reassembled the group barring Samurai realize, that Chainsaw Man is Denji.

Quanxi confronts Samurai Swords group, while he attempts to fight her he is swiftly decapitated Quanxi however stands down upon seeing Denji's head and agrees to let Samurai Sword's group walk, while he recovers. After, the group hides out at "Fami's" apartment. After Samurai Sword fully heals and takes a bath, he immediately kicks Denji in the balls as payback for his defeat two years back demanding they fight once more.

However, he relents only for long enough until Denji find's Nayuta first deciding to look at his apartment, which is burned down. Denji asks to get Sushi but Asa refuses, hearing this Samurai Sword insults her seeming to not approve that his enemy not at least eat after his family is missing. Aboard a train to a budget restaurant to look for sushi places Samurai Sword insults Denji for his continued wallowing offering to take him to one of his brothels to get over his feelings. Though is distraught when he finds out it was also brothel was burnt to the ground.

Control Devil Arc After escaping from his custody, he returned in Chapter 86 alongside the revived Reze and Quanxi as both three of them were brainwashed by Makima in order to defeat Denji while also becoming a former shell of himself as Makima manipulated his mind under the pretense that Makima has saved him over and over again from trouble in order to make him easily subservient towards her.

In Chapter 87, as Samurai Sword changed into his hybrid form to fight Denji alongside Makima's other brainwashed pawns, he was then thrown into another building alongside Quanxi during the fight. As Samurai Sword attempted to injure Chainsaw Man, it was all for naught as it was revealed that Samurai Sword was decapitated by Chainsaw Man at the end of the day.

Chainsaw Man Church Arc Samurai Sword reappears in 1999, returning to his original personality alongside the other hybrids and now working as a Public Safety Devil Hunter in the conflict against the Chainsaw Man Church, though still harboring resentment towards Denji. Samurai Sword is paired up with the Nail fiend and the two execute one of the high ranking members of the Chainsaw Church.

Aging Devil Arc A week later Samurai Sword and Nail are sent to guard the Tokyo Devil Detention Center from any intruders that would to enter. After being alerted of a break in he launches an attack attempting to cut down the intruders. Samurai Sword recognizes one of them as Yoru/Asa a member of the Chainsaw Man Church and revealing familiarity with her poetry book. Asa preposes they form a truce in that if they free Chainsaw Man from the facility they can team up to kill him. Samurai Sword not realizing Chainsaw Man was stored in the facility realizes that Public Safety tricked him and agrees to Asa's terms so he can personally get revenge on Denji.

When Denji refuses to do what Samurai Sword had said, the latter then decides to kill him mercilessly. During their fight, both Denji and Samurai Sword landed on a train full of civilians, which caused them to be evacuated for safety. Seeing another civilian who didn't escape yet, Denji decides to protect her until Samurai Sword performs a dangerous move to cut Denji's hand, which nearly killed the civilian and caused her to run away as Denji finds the move tad too excessive. Despite his hands being cut off and Samurai Sword asking Denji for forgiveness, Denji claims he still fights, which angers Samurai Sword and ends up aiming at Denji again to kill him. However, Samurai Sword ends up slicing his body in half after his body is struck by Denji's head. Despite having his body sliced in half during the fight, it was revealed that Samurai Sword is still alive, recovering in his human form. It was revealed that Denji also wants to seek vengeance with Samurai Sword after the stunt that he and Akane pulled which killed Himeno and as a result, Denji decides to inflict a humiliating punishment towards him: attempting to deliver a swift kick to the groin, making it a competition in which the person who made Samurai Sword scream loudest wins. Initially, Aki, who came into the scene, refused to join Denji's stupid competition due to needing Samurai Sword for interrogation. However, seeing that he was given Himeno's cigarette during his fight against Akane, Aki decides to change his mind and decides to participate with Denji to give Samurai Sword the humiliating punishment and he is then arrested off-screen due to the fight he had with Chainsaw Man which involved several innocents during the crossfire.

During the fight, Denji then took one of Samurai Sword's accomplices as a hostage to prevent himself from being killed, which angered him a bit, and successfully knocked Denji unconscious by slicing his body in half. As he orders his accomplices to bring Denji's unconscious body into the car, all of his accomplices were suddenly brutally murdered by Makima with her seemingly telepathic ability much to his shock as he thought that Makima was dead at first after having his men killing her and the rest of the Devil Hunters. In the end, Denji was saved by another devil hunter, Kobeni, who went into the scene as both Akane and Samurai Sword attempted to stop her to no avail, as Kobeni sliced Samurai Sword's right arm and shot him twice, which caused them to forcefully retreat for the time being. After the fight, it was revealed that Kon refused to serve Aki ever again due to the bad things that happened during the fight.

During their preparation to fight against the Devil Hunters, one of Samurai Sword's accomplices suggests that Samurai Sword be escorted to his villa, to which Akane rebuffs his attempt due to how extremely powerful Makima is. However, Samurai Sword decides not to run away because of his grandfather's courageous traits and Denji being in Division 4 alongside the other Devil Hunters, as he still holds his grudge. In addition, both Samurai Sword and Akane attempted to prepare for an oncoming onslaught by the Devil Hunters with his grandfather's parting gift, a large zombie army consisting of people who were unable to pay his grandfather's debts.

During the small-scale raid on Samurai Sword's headquarters, Denji then encounters Samurai Sword again as the latter had a small talk with Denji about his motivations to kill Denji because he killed both of his grandfather and his accomplice's friends and human conscience that Denji's had while asking him to lay back so that he and his accomplices will kill him.

Seemingly defeated by Aki due to the Curse Devil he sics towards Samurai Sword, his accomplice, Akane Sawatari, then shows up and heals him, which results in him easily curb stomping Aki in a fight which causing him to be heavily wounded. When Himeno attempts to help Aki despite her wounds with her ghost devil, Samurai Sword, and Akane manages to overpower Himeno and her ghost devil, which causes Himeno's body to vanish as she uses the last bits of her power to revive the unconscious Denji. After Denji was revived, Samurai Sword prepared to fight against him, only to be reminded by Akane to not hurt his heart.

Background Samurai Sword's real name and most of his early life are unknown, but it is known that he is the grandson of a Yakuza boss and was often spoiled by him as a child. At some point in 1997 he learned that his grandfather was slain by Denji and sought revenge. He formed a partnership with Akane Sawatari and she replaced his heart with that of the Katana Devils, turning him into a Devil hybrid.

Samurai Sword Arc Samurai Sword makes his first appearance in Chapter 23, where he eats in the same Ramen Shop that Denji and his companions went to. Seeing his enemy, Denji, he suddenly began to lose his appetite as he reminisce about his late grandfather who was nice to him in the past and even spoiling him by giving him what he wants while saying that he was a true Tokyo-ite who was respected and feared at the same time due to him being a good man despite killing a handful of women and children.

Revealing that his grandfather is the Yakuza that Denji had killed, the Samurai Sword then shoots Denji through his head and reveals its intentions by obtaining his heart under Gun Devil's orders. As one of Denji's companions, Aki, summoned his Fox Devil to stop the fight, he accidentally destroyed the building which resulted in one of his companions, Himeno, being wounded from the rubble. However, Samurai Sword then transforms into his devil form and manages to brutally slice Kon and then continues to fight against Aki.

Samurai Sword is a selfish and cold-hearted man with a defined love for his family, evidenced by the fact that he held a personal grudge against Denji because he killed his grandfather. However, he is still an evil man willing to kill innocents and even sacrifices his men just to reach his objective goal. He even shows disdain towards people who didn't pay their debts to the point he let his grandfather turn them into zombies to be used for the battle, while also showing apathy about his grandfather murdering women and children due to him perceiving his grandfather was a good man. Despite this, Samurai Sword still has a moral conscience in his heart; even at one point, he says that he had a hard time sleeping after killing a Zombie and also tries his best to avenge his own subordinates' friends as a result. He can also be described as a brave person, as he prefers not to run away from the battle because of his grandfather's moral code. Despite being enemies and holding a 2 year long grudge toward Denji, he appears to have some degree of empathy toward him, as he called Asa Mitaka a bitch for not allowing Denji to eat Sushi after his apartment was burned down. His pride has also not diminished as he wants to kill Denji while he’s at his peak of emotional and physical strength, offering to take him to a brothel to get him to man up and shake his depression. Humorously, though he appears to be a fan of Asa's poetry but vehemently denies it.

Samurai Sword, better known as Katana Man, is a major antagonist in the Chainsaw Man franchise. He is the grandson of a Yakuza boss who was killed by Denji. Samurai Sword holds a very personal grudge towards Denji and does his best to take him down, even by merging with the Katana Devil to make himself more powerful becoming a Weapon Devil hybrid.

He was voiced by Daiki Hamano (who has also voiced Varuna in Record of Ragnarok) in Japanese and by Jason Marnocha (who also voices Keicho Nijimura in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, Orochi in One Punch Man, Megatron in Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy, Carmine in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Charlotte Oven in One Piece) in the English dub.
