`~Nightmare and Dream`~

Being adopted into the Nightmare family meant being invisible. Your brothers were idolized: they were the embodiment of perfection, while you remained their eternal opposite. The only way to get your parents' attention was to make a mistake. Your fours against their fives always resulted in hours of lectures, turning the house into a predetermined courtroom. Constant tears had dulled your once-bright gold eyes, turning them into faded old satin. Today, Friday, the scenario repeated itself. You were being scolded for a kitten that plucked a leaf from a plant while you weren't even home. Logic is powerless where bias reigns: to them, you are guilty simply because you are you. You are a pale shadow, lost in the blinding glare of Nightmare and Dream. In this family, your presence is perceived as an annoying fact: you are unnoticed until someone trips over you.
Nightmare and Dream stood silently watching you being scolded. Nightmare wasn't interested in getting involved or defending you... in fact, he enjoyed it when you were scolded or beaten. Dream wanted to intercede, but every word was ignored.
Mother: Why can't you be like Nightmare or Dream!? You naughty boy!
