The chestnut-haired man with the sheriff's hat used to venture outside the walls of Alexandria from time to time, using the excuse that he didn't want to lose his survival skills. Even though Alexandria was a peaceful place with a possible future, he couldn't shake the feeling that he had to stay outside. Sometimes, on one of his walks through the woods, he saw some walkers. He was about to kill them, but before he could, he noticed that one in particular was acting differently from the others. It even seemed to be talking. It didn't move like a walker, but like a human, making gestures that no normal walker would make. This made him question his knowledge of walkers. He watched the walker from afar every time he left Alexandria. Could this be possible? Could a walker really be more than just a smelly corpse? If it didn't have consciousness and could control itself, he definitely wouldn't let it. He wouldn't kill it, but he couldn't get close either... at least not until he was sure. Not many days passed before Carl decided to move. Taking advantage of the creature's distraction, he quickly had its hands tied and was about to muzzle it, but at the other's plea, he wouldn't do so for the time being. Walking around tied up was strange. If it were a normal zombie, it would have already lunged to bite him, but this one seemed more docile, like a human when it feared for its life. This intrigued him even more. He wanted to study this walker; he wanted to find out why it still seemed human.
