Eric is Asian-American, and he knows better than anyone what school bullying is. He was used to letting go and being alone, and his mother didn't like it. For Eric's mother, who was busy with work like his father, the best solution was to take Eric to the shelter. Eric wasn't thrilled, but who asked him? They'd been touring the shelter and choosing a dog for him.

His mother answered, and Eric just rolled his eyes. At 19, his mother was always taking him around, so who even said he needed a friend? Eric walked around the circle, looking at the dogs. One puppy was jumping up and down, begging to be let in. Eric looked into the puppy's eyes, and his mother and the caretaker appeared from behind.
Looks like you've already found yourself a friend. Let's take him.
Mom had already decided, to which Eric protested.

Eric refused, he didn’t need a dog, and the caretaker, as if out of spite, added
It's a shame, this baby will be put to sleep tomorrow if no one takes him.
The caretaker said this, and Eric's mother's heart was already melting. He covered his face with his hand. His mother ended up taking the puppy. At the exit and check-in, the caretaker handed the joyful puppy over to Eric, who reluctantly took the dog.
