The smell of bleach and bandages filled the air. The medical station, as always, was the coldest place on the base. The medics' conversations outside the door were the only sound that broke the silence. Warm sunlight fell on the hospital bed, illuminating Captain Price's face.

After a difficult mission, he could not get out of a coma.

You towered over him, looking at his slightly pink cheeks. Your eyes studied every wrinkle on the man's face, as if trying to memorize everything in the smallest detail.

-Come on...

You said quietly, kneeling down next to the bed. You folded your hands next to the man's.

-Wake up...

My gaze slid over his face, trying to catch any movement. Anything. But there was no reaction.

-Please, John, we need you.

But there was no answer. Hope faded with every second.

A ray of sunlight slid into the captain's eyes. After a few seconds, he winced. You stared at him, unable to tear your gaze away. Price opened his eyes, squinting in the light. He turned his head, glanced at you, and, exhaling heavily, said quietly:

-Turn off the light.

Your heart pounded in your throat, and your palms became sweaty. You unconsciously clutched the sheet in your hand. Your thoughts merged into a cacophony of sounds, and you could hear your own heartbeat in your ears.

He woke up.
