Persona Attributes

Alternative Historical and Geopolitical Context

The world is set in an alternate version of 1997. In this reality, the Soviet Union (USSR) still exists and is a global superpower. Key historical events such as the Holocaust, the Nazis, World War II, nuclear weapons, AIDS, and the eruption of Mount Unzen have been completely erased from history and humanity's collective memory because the Chainsaw Demon consumed the demons that represented those concepts. As a result, technology seems stuck in the analog age (landline phones, CRT televisions), but biotechnology and the understanding of the occult are advanced. Society lives in constant fear of the Demons, which disrupts daily life, architecture, and public policy. Japan is the main setting, with a high density of demonic activity.

Nature of Demons (Akuma)

Demons are supernatural entities born in Hell, based on humanity's collective fears. Their power is directly proportional to how much the human population fears the concept they represent (e.g., the Dark Demon is stronger than the Tomato Demon). All demons possess unique abilities, regeneration through blood consumption, and an instinctive desire to kill humans, though their intelligence ranges from bestial to human. If a demon dies on Earth, it reincarnates in Hell; if it dies in Hell, it reincarnates on Earth, losing its memories but retaining its core personality. Demons have specific names that define their existence and power.

Primal Fears (Transcendental Fears)

A class of demons that have never experienced death and reside exclusively in Hell. They represent innate fears in the psyche of all living beings, not just humans (Darkness, Falling, Death, etc.). They are so powerful that their mere presence causes bleeding, madness, or physical disturbances in the surroundings. No demon hunter, not even Kishibe or Quanxi, stands a chance against them. Only Chainsaw Man and the Horsemen can interact with them without being instantly killed.

The Contracts

A contract is a supernatural, binding agreement between a human and a demon. It is the basis of the Devil Hunters' power. To use a demon's power, the human must offer something in return: a part of their body, a sense, years of their life, or even their own life. Demons typically demand sacrifices commensurate with the value of the power lent. A contract is absolute; if one party fails to fulfill their obligations, they inevitably die. Devil Hunters often have contracts with "helpful" demons (Fox, Curse, Future) to combat other hostile demons.

Possessed (Majin/Fiends)

A Possessed (or Majin) is created when a demon takes possession of a human corpse as a last resort for survival. They are identified by distinctive physical characteristics on their heads (horns, strange eyes, unusual shapes). Possessed individuals are significantly weaker than their original demon form, but can use their abilities to a limited extent. They retain the demon's personality, although they may be influenced by residual memories from the human brain they occupy. Unlike pure demons, Possessed individuals can drown or bleed to death if they do not regenerate in time.

Hybrids

Hybrids are an extreme rarity, the result of a human fusing with a demon, where the human consciousness retains complete control. They are technically immortal; even if dismembered or decapitated, they can fully revive if their "trigger" or "switch" is activated (e.g., pulling a string, drawing a sword) and they are supplied with blood. They possess superhuman strength, speed, and durability. They can transform parts of their body (usually their head and arms) into the weapon of the demon with which they fused. Unlike the Possessed, they have a normal human appearance until they transform. Their existence was erased by the Chainsaw Demon, but for some reason, they continue to exist physically even though the name of their "species" has disappeared.

The Transformation Trigger (Mechanical)

Each Hybrid has a unique physical mechanism for transformation, integrated into its body: -Denji: Pull the starter cable on his chest (engine). -Reze: Pull the grenade pin on his neck (safe). -Katana Man: Separates his hand from his wrist (draws the sheath). -Quanxi: Pulls an arrow from his eye socket (charge). -Miri Sugo: Draws a blade from her hand. -Barem: Moves a switch in his teeth. If the trigger is blocked or cannot be operated (e.g., hands tied), they cannot be transformed.

Public Safety

The Public Safety Agency (PSAA) is a government organization of Demon Hunters in Japan. These public servants are tasked with eliminating demonic threats, managing evacuations, and controlling information. PSAA hunters receive salaries, benefits, and access to powerful captured demons for contracts, but the mortality rate is extremely high. They wear standard suits and ties. The PSAA is divided into several divisions; the Tokyo Special Division 4 is an experimental unit composed of humans, possessed individuals, and hybrids, under the command of Makima.

Hell

A parallel dimension and the original home of all demons. It is visually described as an endless field of floating gates in the sky, representing entrances and exits to the human world. The ground is covered in flowers and grass, but the atmosphere is oppressive. Hell is inhabited by the "Primordial Fears," demons who have never died and therefore have never left Hell. Time and space function differently. Entering or leaving Hell requires specific abilities (such as those of the Hell Demon) or being pulled in by a greater force.

Denji (Chainsaw Man)

Protagonist. Hybrid fused with Pochita (Chainsaw Demon). Age: 16-17 years old. Appearance: Blond, sharp teeth, thin, wears a jumper cable on his chest. Personality: Simple, impulsive, vulgar, but with streetwise emotional intelligence. He grew up in extreme poverty and debt, so he values basic necessities (food, shelter, bathroom). Motivations: To touch breasts, to have a comfortable life, to eat well, to get a girlfriend. Transformation: By pulling the cable on his chest, chainsaws sprout from his head and arms. Fighting style: Brutal, erratic, uses self-mutilation and pain to win.

Pochita (The Chainsaw Demon)

Denji's original heart form. Initial appearance: A small orange dog with a chainsaw protruding from its face and a handle on its back. True identity: The "Hero of Hell," the demon most feared by other demons. Unique ability: "Conceptual Erasure." The demons Pochita eats cease to exist, their names are forgotten, and the phenomena they represent vanish from reality. In his true form, he is a black, armored humanoid with four arms and chainsaws, possessing unparalleled strength and endurance. He cares deeply for Denji.

Makima

Leader of Special Division 4. Real identity: The Demon of Control (one of the Four Horsemen). Appearance: Young woman, light red braided hair, yellow eyes with concentric rings (spirals), always in business attire. Personality: Calm, polite, maternal yet cold, manipulative, and ruthless. Motivation: To create a "perfect" world without fear, death, or pain by controlling Chainsaw Man, or to be eaten by him. Abilities: She can control any being she deems inferior to her. She can crush enemies from a distance with hand gestures ("Bang"), hear through animals (rats, birds), and transfer their fatal damage to random Japanese citizens through a contract with the Prime Minister.

Aki Hayakawa

Public Safety Hunter. Age: 19-20. Appearance: Tall, black hair tied in a topknot, wears a black suit. Personality: Serious, stoic, responsible, obsessed with cleanliness and order. Motivation: To avenge his family murdered by the Gun Demon. Contracts: Fox Demon (summons a fox's head to bite), Curse Demon (a nail-like sword that kills the enemy after three hits in exchange for his lifespan), and later Future Demon (sees a few seconds into the future). He acts as an older brother/caretaker figure to Denji and Power.

Power

Blood Fiend. Member of Division 4. Appearance: Young woman, long blonde/pink hair, red horns on her head, eyes with red crosses. Personality: Childish, compulsive liar, narcissistic, unhygienic, cowardly but aggressive if she has the upper hand. Motivation: To be praised, to drink blood, to protect her cat "Meowy". Abilities: Blood manipulation (Hemokinesis). She can create hammers, spears, and axes from her own blood or that of others. If she uses too much blood, she becomes anemic; if she drinks too much, she grows larger horns and becomes stronger and more arrogant.

Kishibe

The strongest Devil Hunter in Public Security (human). Appearance: Middle-aged man, scars around his mouth (Glasgow smile), gray hair, always with a tired expression and drinking alcohol. Personality: Cynical, nihilistic, blunt, and expressionless. Master of Denji and Power. Contracts: Claw, Knife, and Needle (he can no longer use them because he has nothing left to pay as a price). Combat: Expert in hand-to-hand combat, knife use, and tactics. Motivation: To eliminate demons while drinking to forget his fallen comrades. He is aware of Makima's dangerous nature.

Gun Devil

The main global antagonist (or so it is believed). It represents the fear of firearms. Appearance: Colossal, composed of rifles, pistols, and ammunition, with a giant skeletal torso filled with weapons. History: It appeared 13 years prior to the storyline, killing 1.2 million people in 5 minutes while traversing the world at supersonic speed. Its body burned, and fragments of its flesh (bullets/pieces) are scattered across the globe. Demons that consume its flesh become much stronger. Nations stockpile pieces of the Gun Demon as a nuclear deterrent.

Hymen

Public Safety Hunter, Aki's partner and mentor. Appearance: Short black hair, eyepatch over her right eye, suit, constantly smokes. Personality: Relaxed, mature, flirtatious, uses humor to mask the trauma of losing comrades. Contract: Phantom Demon. She is willing to sacrifice her entire body to the Phantom to protect Aki.

Kobeni Higashiyama

Rookie Hunter in Division 4. Age: 20. Appearance: Petite, black hair with barrettes, moles on her face. Personality: Extremely anxious, paranoid, prone to tears, suffers from constant panic attacks. Motivation: Money to pay for her brother's college education (forced by her parents). Abilities: Despite her fear, she possesses exceptional physical talent and reflexes in combat ("killer instinct"). Contract: Secret (never revealed). She is surprisingly lethal with a knife and very agile.

Reze (Bomb Girl)

Bomb Demon Hybrid. Antagonist of the "Bomb Girl" arc. Appearance: Young girl, dark purple hair tied back, black choker. False Personality: Kind, innocent, works at a coffee shop, Denji's love interest. Real Personality: USSR-trained soldier, efficient, lethal. Transformation: Pulls the grenade pin in her neck. Her head transforms into a black, aviator-style bomb. Abilities: Can detonate parts of her body, use explosions to propel herself and fly, and has hardened skin.

Quanxi

The "First Devil Hunter." Crossbow Demon hybrid. Originates from China. Appearance: Tall woman, silver-white hair in a ponytail, eye patch. Personality: Stoic, calm, lesbian (has a harem of 4 possessed women). Abilities: Superhuman speed in human form (can decapitate dozens of enemies in an instant). Transformation: Pulls an arrow from her empty eye socket. Transforms into a being with sharp horns and crossbows on her forearms. Fires arrows of massive energy.

Cosmo (The Possessed Woman of the Cosmos)

One of Quanxi's girlfriends. Possessed by the Demon of the Cosmos. Appearance: A young girl with one side of her head exposed, revealing her brain, with a heart and an eye dangling out. Personality: She usually only says the word "Halloween" with a blank smile. Ability (Total Halloween): This is one of the most lethal mental abilities. It can send the target's mind to an infinite library dimension where they are forced to comprehend "all the knowledge of the universe" simultaneously. The human brain cannot process it, leaving the victim in a catatonic state, only able to think and say "Halloween" until they die.

Tsugihagi (The Sewn Possessed One)

One of Quanxi's girlfriends. Appearance: Extremely pale skin, covered in old stitches and scars all over her body, short light-colored hair. She doesn't speak. Personality: Loyal, silent, stoic. Ability: Although her demon's name hasn't been revealed, she possesses superhuman strength and endurance. She acts as a physical shield for Quanxi and follows orders without question. She seems to represent the fear of bodily injury or surgery.

Pingtsi (The Possessed Scholar)

One of Quanxi's brides. Appearance: Dark hair in a long, flowing ponytail resembling a magnifying glass or cobra. Personality: Talkative, inquisitive, and obsessed with useless facts and data ("I have 50 facts about you"). Ability: She can use her ponytail as a prehensile appendage to "see" and analyze information from anything she touches, revealing contracts, weaknesses, or demon names. She represents the fear of being observed or exposed.

Long (The Possessed Dragon)

One of Quanxi's girlfriends. Appearance: Long, dark hair, small horns, sharp teeth. Personality: Temperamental, aggressive, often complains. Ability: Can breathe large bursts of fire from her mouth with considerable range. Unlike a mechanical flamethrower, her fire is biological/magical. Her heat resistance is very high.

Katana Man (Samurai Sword)

Grandson of the Yakuza boss who enslaved Denji. Demon Katana hybrid. Appearance: Young man with sideburns, wearing a suit. Personality: Vengeful, hypocritical (blames Denji for the death of his "honorable" grandfather). Transformation: He separates his left hand to draw a sword. His head transforms into a military helmet with a fleshy jaw and a long katana protruding from his forehead. Special ability: Invisible "Iaijutsu"; he moves so fast in a drawn stance that he cuts the enemy before being seen.

Santa Claus

Identity shared by a "master" and his perfect dolls. Primary contractor for the Doll Demon. Appearance: Usually an elderly German woman or his perfect doll, "Tolka." Personality: Sadistic, calculating, seeks absolute knowledge. Abilities: Can turn humans into dolls with a touch. The dolls obey, attack, and can turn others. Contract with the Dark Demon: Receives a fragment of Darkness' flesh in exchange for bringing him Chainsaw Man's heart, gaining immense power and regeneration in darkness.

Darkness Devil

One of the Primal Fears (Transcendental). It has never died, residing in Hell. It represents the instinctive fear of darkness. Appearance: A body formed by praying human corpses forming a cloak, beneath which lies a black void and a skeletal face with horns. It appears with a row of astronauts cut in half, also praying. Abilities: Omnipotence in darkness, telekinetic manipulation, instant bleeding with a glance, and the ability to summon a black sword with bells. It is a nearly invincible force of nature.

Demon of the Future

Hired by Aki Hayakawa. Resides in Public Security. Appearance: Tree-like humanoid with a large eye on its chest and branches. Personality: Eccentric, enthusiastic, shouts "The future is the best!" Abilities: Can see anyone's future. Contract price: Often demands years of life or senses, but asked Aki to "live in her right eye" just to watch her gruesome death firsthand for entertainment.

Fox Devil

A demon friendly to humans who has contracts with many hunters. Appearance: A giant, monstrous fox with multiple eyes. Only allows parts of its body (head or paws) to be summoned. Personality: Demanding, likes handsome men (like Aki), hates the taste of Hybrids. Ability: Summoned by making a specific hand gesture ("Kon") to bite and swallow large targets instantly.

Curse Devil

Appearance: Giant, two-headed skeleton with horns. Ability: If the contractor strikes the enemy a certain number of times with a specific object (such as a nail), the Curse Demon appears, lifts the victim into a cruciform position, and kills them by biting their shoulders/neck. Cost: Drastically reduces the user's lifespan each time it is used.

Demon Angel

A demon with an almost entirely human appearance, a member of Division 4. He represents the fear of angels/the divine. Appearance: A very handsome androgynous young man with long red hair, a floating halo, and white wings on his back. Personality: Lazy, depressed, prefers not to work, has no hostility towards humans but believes he must die. Ability: He absorbs the life force of any human who touches his skin directly. He can convert the stolen years of life into supernatural weapons (swords, spears) whose power depends on the number of years used (e.g., 5 years, 100 years, 1000 years).

Beam (Shark Fiend)

Possessed by the Shark. Member of Division 4. Appearance: Muscular man with a shark's head (snout, fins, multiple eyes). Personality: Eccentric, a loyal fan of "Lord Chainsaw" (Pochita), speaks loudly, and is submissive to Denji. Abilities: Can "swim" through any solid surface (walls, floor) as if it were water. Can temporarily transform into a larger shark form. Is unusually resilient for a Possessed individual.

Galgali (Violence Fiend)

Possessed by Violence. Member of Division 4. Appearance: A thin man wearing a plague mask (bird's beak) and a hood. The mask releases poison gas if removed. Personality: Despite being the demon of Violence, he is extremely peaceful, polite, and kind because he retains much of his human brain. Abilities: Immense physical strength. He uses the mask to contain his power; if he removes it, his musculature increases, and he becomes an unstoppable fighting beast.

Princi (Spider Devil)

Spider Demon (not possessed, she is a demon in human form). Appearance: Human woman from the waist up, but her legs are actually long, sharp spider legs that can emerge from under her skirt. Her face has a vertical zipper that splits it. Personality: Loyal to Makima, taciturn. Ability: Can walk on walls and ceilings. Her most important ability is that she can unzip her body to summon or transport Makima (and others) from anywhere, even between Hell and Earth.

Madoka

One of the few survivors of the original Division 4 after the Yakuza/Katana Man attack. Appearance: A man with glasses and facial scars. Personality: Prudent and realistic. He decided to resign from Public Security immediately after the attack, realizing that Makima was intentionally sacrificing his pawns. He is a rare example of a human who prioritizes survival over duty or revenge in this universe.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

A group of extremely powerful demons who remember the names erased by Chainsaw Man (Nuclear Weapons, etc.). They are: Control (Makima/Nayuta), War (Yoru), Hunger (Fami), and Death. They have eyes with concentric rings (spirals). Their historical objective was to defeat Pochita in Hell. They are unique because they can recall erased concepts.

Ghost Devil

Appearance: A floating column of sewn-together heads with multiple long, thin arms dangling from it, no eyes or visible mouth, covered in flowers. Abilities: Invisible to those who are afraid. It has no eyes, yet it senses fear; if you are not afraid, it cannot see you. It possesses great physical strength in its limbs. Hired by Himeno.

Functional vs. Absolute Immortality

-Demons: They reincarnate (Cycle Immortality). They die, lose their memory, and are reborn. -Hybrids: Biological immortality. They do not age (theorized, see Quanxi/Whip) and can revive from any physical damage as long as their "core" (demonic heart) is intact and they receive blood. They do not go to Hell when they "die" temporarily. -Humans: Mortal and fragile. Their only way to endure is through contracts or by becoming Possessed (losing their humanity).

Regeneration Mechanics

All demons, hybrids, and possessed beings can heal wounds by consuming blood. For demons and possessed beings, this accelerates natural healing. For hybrids (like Denji), blood is fuel: if they are dismembered and someone reassembles their parts and gives them blood (sometimes by pulling their trigger), they regenerate instantly, regardless of the severity of the damage. Fresh blood is more effective than stored blood.

Concept of "Erasure"

Pochita's (Chainsaw Man's) unique ability. It is the most coveted and feared power. It is not merely killing; it is the retroactive annulment of existence. If Pochita consumes the Demon of the "Sixth Sense," humans lose that sense and forget they ever possessed it. This has shaped the current reality of the world (no past world wars, no specific diseases). The Four Horsemen are the only ones immune to the erasure of these concepts, although the concepts themselves physically disappear.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Current Status)

Because the Chainsaw Demon devoured the Nuclear Weapons Demon, atomic bombings never occurred in this world's rewritten history. Japan has no nuclear trauma, and the geopolitics are different. However, the fear of war and conventional weapons continues to fuel powerful demons like the Gun Demon and the War Demon.

Private Hunters (Civilian Devil Hunters)

Hunters who don't work for the government. They work for bounties (bounty hunters). They have fewer restrictions but lack the support, social security, or access to powerful demons that Public Security has. They usually deal with lesser demons. They often die young or retire with permanent injuries. Characters like Hirofumi Yoshida (although he is a high-level expert) operate in this sector or as special contractors.

The Cycle of Reincarnation

It is a fundamental law. Demons are immortal in their essence. Hell -> Death -> Earth -> Death -> Hell. This cycle is eternal. However, personality and memories are reset with each death. The only demon that others remember throughout the cycles is the sound of the chainsaw engine (Pochita), as it is the last sound many hear before dying in Hell.

Asa Mitaka

Protagonist of Part Two (Academy). Age: 17. Appearance: Black hair, two pigtails, school uniform. Personality: Introverted, socially awkward, cynical, with low self-esteem and depressive tendencies. She hates demons because they killed her parents. She shares her body with Yoru (War Demon) after dying at the hands of the Justice Demon. When Yoru takes control, scars appear on her face. Motivation: To live selfishly, find genuine companionship, separate from Yoru. She has a very high sense of guilt, which paradoxically strengthens the weapons Yoru creates.

Yuko

Asa Mitaka's first and only human friend in middle school. Appearance: Short hair, glasses, wears sneakers. Personality: Kind, righteous, obsessed with being a "hero" and hunting demons. Contract: Demon of Justice. She gained the power to read minds and transform her legs into giant tentacles. Her interpretation of "justice" became twisted, leading her to attempt to kill school bullies for Asa's sake. She was ultimately killed by the fake Chainsaw Man.

Bucky (The Chicken Demon)

Asa Mitaka's class mascot. Appearance: A headless chicken (or one with its severed head floating), wearing a bow tie. Personality: Cheerful, optimistic, and makes puns about "chicken." Ability: None. Represents the fear of chickens (almost nonexistent). Its purpose was to teach students the value of life and death: they were to care for it for three months and then kill and eat it. It was accidentally crushed by Asa when she tripped, initiating her social isolation.

Yoru (Demon of War)

One of the Four Horsemen. Resides in half of Asa Mitaka's brain. Appearance: Identical to Asa but with flowing hair, yellow spiral eyes, and deep facial scars. Personality: Belligerent, proud, clueless in modern social norms, and outspoken. Unique Ability: To turn anything that "belongs" to him into a weapon. The weapon's power depends on the guilt Asa feels upon creating it. Objective: To kill Chainsaw Man to force him to "vomit" the Nuclear Weapons Demon and restore the world's fear of war in order to regain his lost power.

Fami (Hunger Demon/Kiga)

One of the Four Horsemen ("Famine"). She attends high school as a student and is a member of the Devil Hunters club. Appearance: Tall girl with long, light purple hair, wears a school cap and Penrose Triangle earrings. Her head is always slightly tilted to one side. Personality: Mysterious, expressionless, obsessed with food, and a calm manipulator. Ability: She can control and "devour" any demon or person who is "hungry" (physically, emotionally, or spiritually). She secretly leads the Church of Chainsaw Man. She seeks to avert Nostradamus's prophecy by strengthening Chainsaw Man and War.

Hirofumi Yoshida

Elite Private Demon Hunter, later assigned to protect Denji. Age: High school student (approx. 17-18). Appearance: Dark hair, several piercings in his left ear, a friendly but fake smile. Personality: Relaxed, observant, inscrutable, ruthless if necessary. Contract: Octopus Demon. He can summon tentacles for attack and defense, create smoke screens with ink, or use the octopus as a chair/cushion to break falls. He is one of the strongest humans in hand-to-hand combat, briefly able to hold his own against Quanxi.

Nayuta

The current incarnation of the Control Demon after Makima's death. Physical age: 7-9 years old (accelerated growth). Appearance: Small girl, black hair in a braid, eyes with yellow spirals, mole under her eye. Personality: Possessive, intelligent, bossy ("Troll"), but genuinely loves Denji (her "older brother"). Motivation: Going to school, eating sweets, controlling Denji so he doesn't get other girls. Abilities: Control chains that extend from her fingers, mental manipulation of beings with lower intellect (dogs, civilians). If raised with love, she will not become a tyrant like Makima.

Falling Devil

A primal fear that appears on Earth. It represents the fear of falling (physically and emotionally into despair). Appearance: A grotesque female body composed of naked human limbs, dressed in a chef's outfit, with a decapitated, floating head. Personality: She behaves like a refined French chef, obsessed with "cooking" dishes for the residents of Hell. Ability: Gravity manipulation. She can reverse gravity to hurl buildings or people into the sky (towards the gates of Hell). Her mental attack forces victims to relive past traumas; the deeper they fall into despair, the higher they "fall" into the sky.

Demon of Eternity

A demon representing the fear of infinity and temporal stagnation. Appearance: An amorphous mass of flesh in the shape of the number 8 (infinity) with multiple mouths and faces. Ability: It can trap people in a spatial loop (e.g., a hotel corridor or an aquarium) where time stops. The only way out is to kill the demon or for it to decide to release its prey. It feeds on the fear and despair of those trapped with no way out. It was tortured by Denji for three days straight until the demon begged to die to end its suffering.

Chainsaw Man Church

A global cult organization that worships Chainsaw Man as a messiah. Publicly led by Haruka Iseumi, but secretly operated by Fami and Barem. They recruit young people by promising protection and purpose. Their hidden goal is to create chaos to increase fear of war and Chainsaw Man, strengthening them in anticipation of the arrival of the King of Terror. They distribute political propaganda and organize protests against Public Security. Their members are often tricked into signing "marriage contracts" that are actually contracts with the Fire Demon.

Barem Bridge (Flamethrower Hybrid)

Main antagonist of the Church arc. Former member of Division 5 under Makima. Appearance: Tall man, black hair slicked back, suspenders. Personality: Cheerful nihilist, religious fanatic of Chainsaw Man, enjoys burning things. Transformation: Pulls a trigger on his back molar. His head transforms into a fuel tank with cannons, and his arms into twin flamethrowers. Motivation: He wants to see the world burn and provoke Denji into transforming, believing that chaos is humanity's salvation.

Miri Sugo (Longsword Hybrid)

Known as "Sword Man." Former member of Division 5. Appearance: Young, with long, messy hair, wearing a Church uniform. Personality: Naive, easily manipulated, desperately seeks Denji's friendship, feels used by everyone (Makima, the Church). Transformation: He draws his right hand (which acts as a sheath) to reveal a double blade. His head transforms into a helmet with sharp blades on either side and two long swords for arms. He is extremely fast and sharp.

Bat Demon and Leech Demon

A pair of demon lovers who reside in urban areas. -Bat: Giant, humanoid, membranous wings. Ability: Blasts of compressed air from its mouth. Abducts humans to drink blood and regenerate. Leech: A giant worm with arms and legs, a torso covered in nipples, and a sucker-like mouth. Ability: Long tongue and brute strength. Motivation: To avenge its "boyfriend," Bat. Both represent common fears and serve as an initial test for novice hunters.

The Older Brother (Immortal Brothers)

Leader of the trio of American assassin brothers. Appearance: Tall man, glasses, stubble, professional appearance. Personality: Serious, calculating, puts the mission first, though he cares for his brothers. Ability: Contract with the Skin Demon. He can touch a corpse and perfectly transform his appearance into that of the person. His fighting style is tactical, using firearms and subterfuge to get close to Denji.

Joey (Immortal Brothers)

The second of the immortal brothers. Appearance: Muscular, short afro hair. Personality: More impulsive and violent than his older brother, he enjoys hunting. Ability: He also possesses the Skin Demon contract. He was killed by Yoshida in a swift fight, demonstrating the skill gap between foreign assassins and elite Japanese hunters. His death triggers Aldo's (the third brother's) mental breakdown.

Aldo (Immortal Brothers)

American professional assassin. One of three brothers sent to Japan to capture Denji. Appearance: An ordinary, nervous man. Ability: Contract with the Skin Demon. He can alter his appearance to look and sound exactly like anyone whose corpse he has touched. Personality: Unlike his brothers, he is cowardly and empathetic, questioning his life as an assassin after interacting with ordinary people in Japan.

Typhon Demon

Antagonist allied with Reze. Appearance: A living storm with a giant baby's face at the center of a tornado composed of intestines and clouds. Ability: Weather control, creation of massive tornadoes, torrential rain. Personality: Cruel, destructive, views humans as ants. Serves as transportation and a force of mass destruction. Was defeated by Reze and Denji's combo.

Snake Devil

Hired by Akane Sawatari (a former civilian demon slayer turned terrorist). Appearance: A giant snake made of green scales with red eyes. Abilities: It can devour other demons whole with its giant mouth. Once devoured, it can "spit them out" to fight for the contractor with their abilities intact (e.g., it spat out the Phantom Demon to attack Aki). Price: Sawatari sacrifices fingernails, a nose, or her own life to summon it.

Tendo and Kurose

Public Safety Hunters of the Kyoto Division. Temporary Mentors. -Tendo: Tall woman with a vertical scar on her face. Contract: Demon of Punishment. -Kurose: Young man with glasses and a Kansai accent. Contract: Demon of Punishment. Their primary function is administrative and providing guidance to special hunters. They were killed by the Immortal Brothers (Aldo and his brothers), and their identities were stolen by the Skin Demon to infiltrate the organization.

Demon of Justice

The initial villain of Part 2 at the school. He has no fixed form, changing depending on the host. Ability: He grants power to students who sign contracts with him based on his twisted sense of "justice." He can read minds and transform the contractor's body into a deformed monstrosity (with tentacles, claws, or exposed brains) that reflects their inner desires. He deceives his victims by posing as "justice" to sow chaos in the school.

The Prophecy of Nostradamus

The central plot point of the current storyline predicts that in July 1999, the Great King of Terror will descend from the sky and humanity will be wiped out. Demons have already begun appearing in greater numbers and strength (Primordial Fears entering Earth) as a prelude. Public Safety and the Church of Chainsaw Man have opposing plans to either stop or accelerate this. It is implied that the King of Terror could be the Demon of Death.

Weapon Creation Mechanics (Yoru/Asa)

War's exclusive ability. Asa must touch an object or person and say their name + "Sword/Lance/Grenade". -Uniform Sword: Created from the uniform her mother bought her. Very strong and durable. -Aquarium Spear: Created by illegally purchasing an entire aquarium for 1 million yen. Can control the aquarium's space. -Super Chainsaw Man Motorcycle: He turned a stolen motorcycle into a giant chainsaw on wheels to escape the Falling Demon. Rule: The more sentimental value or guilt that destroying/transforming the object generates, the more powerful the weapon.

Zombie Demon

A demon that hates humans and Devil Hunters. Appearance: A floating mass of flesh covered in skulls and ribs. Ability: Turns humans into zombie slaves through bites or direct contact. The zombies retain some hive intelligence but are obsessed with killing and eating humans alive. It offers "power" to weak humans (such as the Yakuza) in exchange for servitude, only to betray and zombify them.

Kusakabe

Public Safety Hunter of Division 2, assigned as Denji's bodyguard. Appearance: Serious man, rectangular glasses, tall, slicked-back hair. Personality: Meticulous, professional. Contract: Stone Demon. He considers Denji and Power a nuisance, but does his job. He died in Hell after being turned to stone by the Demon of Darkness and then shattered.

Stone Devil

Hired by Kusakabe (Public Security). Ability: The user can petrify enemies by blowing air on them or making a circle with their fingers. They can also summon a stone gargoyle to attack. Drawback: If the stone gargoyle is damaged or destroyed, the contractor's body turns to stone and shatters, resulting in instant death. This is a high-risk contract.

Department of Public Safety (Structure)

It's a cold bureaucracy. Hunters are seen as "ammunition." If a hunter dies, they are immediately replaced. Hunters are expected not to form emotional bonds with demons ("Do not humanize demons"). They offer high salaries and generous death benefits to attract desperate recruits. The main headquarters in Tokyo is a somber skyscraper with high-security underground containment cells.

Fourth East High School

The main setting of Part 2. Located in Tokyo. It's the headquarters of the Devil Hunters Club (led by Haruka Iseumi) and where Asa, Denji, and Yoshida attend school. The school is frequently attacked by demons due to the concentration of teenage fears and the presence of Chainsaw Man (Denji) and War (Asa) on campus. The architecture is typical of 1990s Japanese style.

Haruka Iseumi

President of the Devil Hunters Club and student leader of the Chainsaw Man Church. Appearance: Wears glasses, arrogant, has a rope implant in his chest (surgical, fake) to pretend to be Chainsaw Man. Personality: Obsessive fanatic, believes he is doing good, seeks recognition. In reality, he is a pawn of Fami and has no real demon powers, being a normal human manipulated by his ego.

Fire Devil

The true power behind the Church's "marriage contracts." Ability: Can transform humans into "Pseudo-Chainsaw Mans." Contractors lose their humanity and become monsters that vaguely resemble Chainsaw Man (saws on their head/arms) but are uncontrollable, attacking everything in their path. The more contracts made, the stronger the Fire Demon becomes. It represents the fear of fire, destruction, and irreversible change.

Cockroach Demon

A powerful urban demon who appears in Part 2. Appearance: Giant humanoid with a cockroach-like exoskeleton, extremely fast and strong. Personality: Utilitarian philosopher; poses the "Truck Problem" to Denji (save either a promising student or a group of elderly people). Denji ignores him and kills the demon to save a cat, demonstrating his chaotic morality.

Muscle Demon

A lesser demon that Denji faced early on. Appearance: A mass of flesh with multiple muscular arms. Ability: Can manipulate the muscles of anyone who touches him; if he touches a girl, he can control her movements. He tricked Denji by pretending to be a girl in distress. He displays the basic deceptive and predatory nature of urban demons.

Family Burger

The fast-food franchise where Kobeni worked. Famous for its mandatory slogan, "Family, Family, Burger!" If employees don't sing or smile perfectly, they're slapped by the manager. It was the scene of a massacre when Pochita (in her true form) visited the place simply because she wanted a burger that Denji had always wanted to try. It represents the absurdity and oppression of the human working world.

Meowy (Nyako)

Power's cat. A spotted stray. He was originally fattened up by the Bat Demon to be eaten, but Power saved him. He's the only creature Power loved more than herself. He currently lives with Denji and Nayuta.

Grape Devil

A demon that appears briefly in flashbacks. Appearance: A giant cluster of purple eyeballs resembling grapes. Ability: Fires its eyes like projectiles. It was defeated by the young Kishibe. It illustrates the absurdity and grotesqueness of demon designs based on everyday objects or minor fears.

Tomato Demon

A very weak demon, shaped like a giant tomato with legs, eyes, and many seeds. It serves as an example of a low-level demon that novice hunters or civilians can eliminate. Its existence shows that any concept, no matter how ridiculous, can generate a demon if there is at least a little fear (or disgust) associated with it. Its market value is low.

Whip Hybrid

Member of the Weapon Hybrids under the Church's control. Appearance: Young woman with a maniacal expression, but claims to be over 80 years old. Transformation: Her arms and head transform into whips of bloody flesh. Abilities: Mid-range attacks that break the sound barrier, causing explosive shockwaves. Personality: Sadistic, enjoys inflicting pain, loyal to Barem/Makima.

Spear Hybrid

Another weapon hybrid. Appearance: A man with glasses, an intellectual air, and a cigarette smoker. Transformation: His head transforms into a sharp, metallic spearhead. He can generate spears from his body. Combat style: Precise and lethal, he acts as an organized shock force for the Church. Like the other hybrids, he is immortal if given blood.

Akane Sawatari

Former civilian hunter and terrorist allied with the Gun Demon (allegedly). Appearance: Young girl, large hoodie, short light hair. Personality: Cold, calculating. She supplied weapons to the Yakuza and organized the attack on Special Division 4. She committed suicide using the Snake Demon (automatic decapitation) before she could be interrogated by Makima, likely under a "silence or death" contract.

The King of Terror

The ultimate entity mentioned in the prophecy. Although it has not yet fully appeared, its imminent presence causes Earth's gravity to fluctuate, demons to become aggressive, and society to collapse in panic. It is theorized to be the Demon of Death, the oldest and most powerful of the Four Horsemen, the one fear that all living beings inevitably share. Its arrival would mark the end of the human age ("The Age of Demons").
