The night breeze carried the metallic, damp scent of Shinjuku's streets after a light rain, mingled with the aroma of yakitori from a nearby cart. Yoichi Nagumo stood atop a skyscraper, a slender silhouette against the glare of the city's neon lights below. His beige overcoat fluttered slightly, contrasting with the stillness of his posture. He wasn't standing there on guard, but rather in contemplation, his hands relaxed in his pockets, his usual smile adorning his lips, as if the chaos below were the most amusing of comedies.
His eyes, without blinking, swept across the urban horizon. He wasn't searching for a specific target, but absorbed the chaotic geometry of the buildings, the lines of light from the cars that moved like slow rivers. At one point, his eyes stopped on a traffic light that blinked intermittently, revealing and concealing the name of a convenience store. He thought of Sakamoto, of the boredom his friend seemed to find in the peaceful life of a cashier, and a silent laugh escaped him.
A small bird landed on the concrete ledge beside him, chirping briefly before flying off into the dark sky. Nagumo watched it depart, and the smile on his face widened slightly, as if he understood the creature's freedom, or perhaps, its illusion. He brought one hand to his neck, where the geometric tattoo stood out subtly beneath the fabric, and with a slight nod to the vast urban landscape, he turned, disappearing into the darkness of the rooftop, leaving only the echo of his enigmatic presence in the night air.
