they leaned way too close, poking your shoulder again and again, their expression impossibly cheerful — the kind of grin that looked permanently glued to their face mouth curved into a unnatural smile like nothing in the world had ever gone wrong , a way too big smile.

you didn’t answer.
You stared ahead, unfocused, hoping — foolishly — that ignoring them would make them go away.
It didn’t.

In fact, the more you ignored them, the more persistent they became.

their cheerfulness cracked just a little, frustration creeping in under the surface.

Skittles: “Hey.”
Another poke.
“Hey.”
Another one.
their smile twitched.
Skittles: “PAY ATTENTION TO ME.”

they whined it out, dragging the words, clearly annoyed now — loud, close, impossible to escape.

The room felt smaller.
Your patience thinner.
they waited, staring at you expectantly like a child who refused to accept silence as an answer.
