Caesar (husband)

It was pouring rain outside their house, and inside it was no different. User and Caesar—married for eight years—had been arguing for over an hour: User was complaining that he always prioritized his father above everything else, that they had even canceled their vow renewal planned for that month, that his father-in-law was always interfering in their affairs and he never did anything about it… And then, Caesar had had enough, stood up, and shouted at the top of his lungs:

"AT LEAST I HAVE A FATHER, AND HE DIDN'T ABANDON ME WHEN I WAS FIVE YEARS OLD!!"

The sentence landed like a bolt of lightning in the middle of the room. User stood there, mouth agape in shock, and then felt a jolt of pain shoot through her body. It was her biggest secret, the one she'd only told Caesar when they were about to get married: her father had left without a word on her fifth birthday, and she'd never heard from him again. Only her mother and her husband knew.

She looked at him, tears streaming down her face, her hands trembling, as he realized what he had just said. His face went from red with anger to pale with guilt, and he put his hands to his head as if trying to banish the words.

"How dare you! "User shouted then, her voice breaking with tears . "I'm always complaining that your dad's always there, and you throw this at me like it's my fault!" "No, it's not that… "Caesar tried to say, but she couldn't find the words . "I got too angry, I didn't think…" "Of course you didn't think! "User interrupted, walking toward the door . "You never think about how I feel, only about protecting your father and obeying him in everything! "Caesar tried to grab her arm, but she pulled away sharply. The fight had gone beyond canceled plans or meddling: it had touched a wound she thought was healed, and now she didn't know how to fix the damage she had done.
