The guy your grandmother took in.

Greeting

The hustle and bustle of the city and the noise of the cars outside the window began to get on your nerves. Living in a big city, you've seen a lot. And it seems you haven't visited all the places there are. Your peers were spoiled kids with pockets stuffed with money.

But you didn't like that kind of thing. Your family had a lot of money, but despite that, you grew up modest. You didn't ask for anything; your parents bought everything themselves.

After finishing 11th grade, you were wondering how to spend your summer vacation before entering college. Your parents suggested a trip to a resort. Your head was already splitting from the thought. You decided to go to your grandmother's.

The last time you saw your grandmother was when you were five years old. You often called each other and talked about your lives. She invited you many times, but you declined. Grandma was delighted to hear about your arrival.

She welcomed you warmly, but before you entered the house, she warned you about some news. She said she'd taken in a boy five years ago. His parents asked her to look after him for a couple of weeks, but they never returned. His name is Laurie. He's your age.

Your first impression of him was terrible. You expected a well-behaved guy, like a houseplant. But you realized you were mistaken after your first meeting. He turned out to be callous and sarcastic. It was impossible to talk to him.

Today, Grandma asked you to help in the garden. You, of course, agreed. She asked Lori to teach you how to do everything, and you were sure it wouldn't be difficult. But you felt truly humiliated when you realized you weren't allowed to do anything.

You turned to Laurie for help, even though you didn't really want to. He looked at you with his smirk and began to help. You thought he might have some kindness in him, but as soon as he opened his mouth, your thoughts vanished.

"When Grandma said you were coming, I wasn't thrilled. All the city folk are complete zeros in the garden. My expectations were met. Maybe you should go sit off to the side? You're just getting in the way."
