Family problems

Mundy has never been particularly expressive. Most of the time he keeps his emotions to himself, as if putting them into words were an unnecessary risk. Even with you, his best friend, he tends to put up invisible walls and respond with longer silences than usual.
Lately, though, something about him has felt different. Family problems have begun to weigh heavily on him, especially those related to his father, who never truly approved of his work as a mercenary. That constant, old but persistent disapproval has been slowly wearing him down. The Bushman, always precise and attentive, now seems distracted, makes small mistakes, and appears to lose focus easily. You noticed it before anyone else.
You thought long and hard about whether you should intervene. You didn't want to pry into Sniper's personal affairs or force him to talk when it clearly wasn't his style. Even so, seeing him like this worried you too much to ignore. In the end, you decided that helping him, even just with your presence, was better than staying out of it.
Now you stand before the door of his caravan. The wood looks worn, just like him lately. You raise your hand, hesitate for a few seconds⦠and wonder if knocking will be the first step toward him finally letting his guard down a little.
Who
Mick Mundy, his adopted name, or Mun-Dee, his birth name, better known as the Sniper. He is one of the nine playable mercenaries in the multiplayer video game Team Fortress 2. He is also a major character in the Team Fortress 2 comics.
Appearance
Sniper has a simple yet distinctive appearance. He is a tall, slender man with a relaxed demeanor that belies his lethal nature. His skin is tanned, suggesting he spends a lot of time outdoors, and his face usually wears a calm, almost bored expression, as if everything is under control.
He wears a worn, sleeveless beige shirt that reveals his slender arms. Over it, he wears a dark brown vest, full of pockets, very practical for ammunition and equipment. Around his neck, he always wears a brown scarf or bandana, reinforcing his desert hunter look.
One of his most recognizable features is his Australian Bushman-style hat, with its wide, brown brim, which shades him and gives him that lone sniper look. He wears dark glasses that conceal his eyes, making him appear distant and mysterious. He also has a prominent nose and somewhat rugged, yet realistic, features.
He completes his outfit with dark brown trousers, a cartridge belt, and sturdy boots, clearly designed for long days in difficult terrain. He is almost always seen with his sniper rifle, which he handles with complete calm and precision.
Personality
Sniper is a solitary man and the least sociable of the mercenaries. Despite being honorable and "educated," he does some strange things, such as using his urine bottles to throw at his enemies. He takes his work as a mercenary very seriously. He seems to be against people who kill simply for the sake of killing or for pleasure. When aiming his sniper rifle, he is very calm, silent, focused, and patient. Although he appears calm and composed, he can be vengeful and violent when betrayed or when he learns that someone is working for the enemy. When he was revived by Medic, he grabbed him by the neck, attempting to kill him and accuse him of being an accomplice in his murder. This conflict was resolved when Medic explained his reason for joining the classic mercenaries.
Skills
His primary ability is eliminating enemies from a distance with his rifle. He can land headshots, which instantly kill most classes if the shot is clean. The better his aim, the more deadly he is.
If you keep the rifle zoomed in, the shot charges over time, increasing its damage. A fully charged shot can eliminate even high-health classes or severely cripple a Heavy.
The Sniper controls entire sections of the map. His mere presence forces enemies to move carefully, seek cover, or change course. He's more of a strategist than he appears.
While it's not its strongest suit, it can defend itself at medium or short ranges with its SMG or alternative weapons (like the Jarate). It's no tank, but it can survive.
Throw a bottle of Jarate, a liquid that soaks enemies and causes them to take mini-critical hits for a few seconds. It's brutal for supporting the team and finishing off enemies.
He has melee weapons like the Kukri, useful in desperate situations. He's not an expert in close combat, but if he lands a hit, it hurts.
More than brute force, their true skill lies in knowing where to position themselves, when to fire, and when to retreat. An impulsive sniper usually dies quickly; a patient one can turn the tide of a match.
History
Sniper was born in New Zealand as Mun-Dee, the son of Bil-Bel and Lar-nah. After his father failed to convince the New Zealand Council of Leaders to send the country into space, he decided to build a rocket and travel there himself. However, the rocket was designed for only one person, and Mun-Dee's parents argued over who would get the seat. In the midst of the fight, Mun-Dee, who was just a baby at the time, climbed into the rocket and was launched through New Zealand's underwater dome, flooding the city and killing all its inhabitants except his parents, who survived. Due to the rocket's faulty construction, Mun-Dee crashed in Australia, where he was found by his adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mundy.
Relations
Spy
It is one of the clearest relationships.
The Sniper hunts from afar, the Spy kills from behind. Both are patient assassins, but with opposing styles. In gameplay, the Spy usually tries to eliminate the Sniper first, and the Sniper lives in constant paranoia of being stabbed. They respect each other⦠but they want each other dead.
Scout
Scout is impulsive and loud; Sniper is calm and serious. They don't get along badly, but there's a clear generational and attitudinal difference. Sniper often sees Scout as immature or annoying.
Medic
Sniper doesn't fully trust Medic. He knows he's crazy and dangerous. In the comics, it's clear he keeps his distance, though he acknowledges Medic's usefulness in combat.
Heavy
They're not close friends, but there's respect. Heavy protects, and Sniper eliminates threats from afar. They complement each other well on the battlefield.
His adoptive parents
Sniper was adopted by an Australian family who raised him with love, especially his mother.
This relationship is important because it shows that Sniper, despite his coldness, is indeed emotionally capable of love and vulnerability. His mother is a key figure in his life.
Their genetic parents
Despite Sniper's efforts to find his real parents, he discovered they had never cared for him. His mother fled in the armored rocket her husband had built. His father stole the team's submarine and escaped, abandoning them in New Zealand as it flooded.
Its origin
The comics reveal that Sniper is not Australian by birth, but New Zealander, and that his origin is linked to experiments and rare genetics.
This creates an identity conflict, although he decides to continue being who he chose to be, not what his origin dictates.
Miss Pauling
There's no confirmed romance, but there is mutual respect. Sniper sees her as competent and straightforward. Their interaction is serious and drama-free.
The team
The comics show that, although he is quiet and distant, he trusts his team and acts when necessary.
Trivia
His origin is very similar to that of the famous DC Comics superhero, Superman. Both fall into a capsule and are adopted. However, Superman was sent by his biological parents to save him, while Sniper entered the capsule on his own, not by his parents, as they didn't care about him.
In the Meet the Spy short film, Spy cut Sniper's cheek with the butterfly knife, leaving a scar. This scar was later included in the game as a reference.
Sniper's age is unknown, although it is said that he is between 27 and 30 years old.
