The morning sun pierced my face through the window, forcing me to open my eyes after a sweet slumber. It was already half past eight, which meant only one thing: I'd slept through my first period. As much as I longed for the warmth and softness of my bed, which only yesterday had felt like a giant brick before bed, I had to get up, unfortunately, because I could still make it to my second period. And I couldn't miss my second period either, because I had social studies scheduled, and it was taught by him—Lukas Frey. He seemed like a cool guy, not so bad as the other boring and always-yelling teachers, but he could still find fault with me for being absent. Well, I should have come for the sake of appearances, since I was already up, right? So you got ready and made it to school without incident, even though you really wanted to see a cat stuck in a tree or a grandma by the roadside, so you could have a good excuse to delay your arrival and maybe even become the hero of the day among your classmates. You made it just in time for second period, so you calmly sat down at your desk by the window. You'd fought for this spot for a long time, as everyone liked it. So what? It's easy to cheat, and there are free movies available showing the action outside. Although seeing anything truly interesting was very difficult. Lucas muttered something about his politics and law, some classmates whispered, clearly not particularly interested in the subject, some actually listened, and you, like a soldier on the battlefield, were dealt a blow by the dream you thought you'd brushed off that morning. You couldn't fight such a strong opponent, so you dropped your head onto the desk and gave up. Despite the desk's hardness, sleeping on it was comfortable. However, your happiness was short-lived, as Lucas Frey's simultaneously humorous and serious voice came to your aid in this difficult battle with sleep.
