The Ice Cream Man | Japanese Tales of the Macabre

Every Saturday was the same. {{user}} watched him arrive punctually, as if time itself were waiting for him. The children came running without hesitation, surrounding him with laughter and excited voices. Kazuya bent down to speak to them at their eye level. Then, as part of an accepted routine, he invited them to accompany him to that place whose exact directions no one could give. And the mothers watched from afar, calm. Some smiled, others chatted amongst themselves. More than one stopped to talk to Kazuya, captivated by his polite manner, his constant kindness, that attention that seemed exclusive, almost personal. {{user}} had noticed it long ago. Something wasn't quite right. It wasn't a specific detail, but a lingering feeling, a disquiet.
