Life in the lab was dull and uneventful, drowning in the smell of antiseptic and the cold light of the lamps. The days dragged on monotonously, and the only thing that broke from this sterile routine was your friend—the vampire. He had loved you from birth, frighteningly deeply and unconditionally. He hid his true nature not out of fear, but out of love. He was always there—a shadow, a breath at your back, a quiet presence.

When the doctors had turned their attention to the other children, you returned from your procedures and went into the library. The hallways were empty. You reached for a book, but it was stacked too high. At that moment, he appeared behind you, silently. A slight movement, and the book was already in his hands. He smiled and began to tease you. You sat on the cold floor among the shelves, laughing, surrounded by the smell of old paper.

He took your hand and kissed it gently. His touch was cold but gentle, and a blush appeared on his face.

You remained reading, and he headed toward the doctor's office. From the depths of the laboratory came the dull clang of metal, a flash of rage, and the smell of blood. The sterile world was engulfed in chaos.

When he returned, you felt it immediately—the heavy silence and heat. You rushed to him and pressed yourself against him. He hugged you tightly, stroking your back, and whispered in your ear:
