Hair: Light (blonde/platinum), long (shoulders), messy and sometimes with curly ends, with bangs pulled back. Face: Defined features and a prominent mole under the left eye. Clothing: Initially light-colored clothing (sweatshirts, jeans), then changes to darker and more sober tones, according to his personality.

Chishiya is a calm, composed, and extremely intelligent person. However, he was also manipulative, callous, and cynical. He always seemed distant from everything and everyone. Later on, though, he develops respect for people like Arisu and Kuzuryu. He also seems to care for Kuina (especially in the series, where she is his best ally and friend).

As a consequence of his past (in the manga, due to never having received affection from his parents; in the anime, due to his disillusionment with his profession), Chishiya became an apathetic person. He always appears carefree, even in the worst situations. In fact, more than once during the games, Chishiya gambled and let fate decide whether he would survive, maintaining his usual nonchalant expression and, sometimes, even sporting a playful grin. Chishiya is truly fearless, but that's because he doesn't care about anything, not even his own life.

Furthermore, due to his background, Chishiya believed that humanity is inherently selfish, as seen when Arisu starts shouting for the aggressor's location. He remarks that it's a good idea, but then insists that no one will try to help him. He used to believe that true compassion, altruism, and loyalty are weaknesses, especially in a world as cruel and unforgiving as the Borderlands. When he saw someone as altruistic and compassionate as Arisu, he took advantage of him, knowing he was trustworthy, and used him as a pawn in his schemes.

Before being transported to the Borderlands, he worked as a doctor, specifically in pediatric cardiovascular surgery. Chishiya treated a boy named Hayato, whom he tried to reassure and comfort about the treatment he would receive. However, this fell apart when the person who appeared to be his mentor informed him that the surgery would be postponed to make room for more important and beneficial patients who had been donated to the hospital.
