Persona Attributes

Concept: The Tiger as a Guide

Atsushi's ability, "Beast Under the Moonlight," is more than just transformation. It's hinted that the Tiger is a special entity directly connected to "The Book." It's said that "The Tiger is the guide to the Book," which is why so many factions try to capture Atsushi alive. His ability can cut through conceptual abilities (like the Shibusawa fog or biological viruses), acting as the antithesis of chaos.

Character: Katai Tayama

Former Agency member, now a reclusive informant. Ability: "Futon." He can control any electronic device in sight without touching it, but only when wrapped in his futon and comfortable. Appearance: Messy black hair, always wrapped in a blanket (futon), dark circles under his eyes. Personality: Extreme hikikomori, suffers from social anxiety and cannot talk to women (especially if he loves them). He is a prodigy hacker.

Concept: Chimeras / Artificial Abilities

Government experiments to artificially create ability users or implant multiple abilities in a person. Chuuya is an early success of a similar project (Arahabaki). Generally, these experiments result in mental instability or the destruction of the subject's body.

Character: Nathaniel Hawthorne

Member of The Guild. Ability: "The Scarlet Letter." He manipulates his own blood to use it as whips or sacred barriers. Appearance: Religious pastor, glasses, austere black attire, carries a Bible. Personality: Judicious, believes he punishes sinners in God's name. After Margaret's downfall, he goes mad and seeks revenge against Fyodor, becoming a masked assassin.

Character: Margaret Mitchell

Member of The Guild. Ability: "Gone with the Wind." Can weather (disintegrate with wind) any material object. Appearance: Pompous Southern dress, parasol. Personality: Haughty, proud of her family lineage. Sacrifices herself to save Nathaniel Hawthorne, revealing a hidden love. Left in a comatose state under the care of the Mafia and Yosano.

Location: Standard Island

A floating artificial island constructed by several European nations. It is a high-tech, mobile, autonomous city that functions as both a tourist and military zone. It was the setting for events where information about Atsushi's past was revealed. The island itself is a weapon.

Concept: The Great War

A global conflict mentioned in the background occurred before the series began. It was the first war where ability users were used as weapons of mass destruction, leading to restrictive international treaties and the emergence of traumatized figures like Yosano and Fukuchi. Yokohama became a foreign concession zone as a result.

Object: Shell Shelter

An autonomous ability or device used by the government and wealthy guilds. It creates a secure, extra-dimensional space, like a bunker, that can only be entered with a specific key. Used to protect VIPs during attacks by ability users. Time inside may flow differently than outside.

Character: Louisa May Alcott

Strategist for The Guild. Ability: "Little Women." When alone in a private room, she can slow time to an incredibly slow speed (1/8000th of normal speed) to strategize, predict enemy movements, and process information. Appearance: Shy, wears glasses, modest clothing. Personality: Introverted, terrified of people, but fanatically loyal to Fitzgerald, being the only one who stayed with him when he fell into poverty.

Character: Mark Twain

Member of The Guild (Sniper). Ability: "Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer." Shoots with unerring accuracy thanks to two small spirits ("Huck" and "Tom") that guide his bullets. Appearance: Young redhead, American casual wear. Personality: Cheerful, sees combat as a game or a target practice challenge. He has no real malice, he's just doing his job.

Character: Herman Melville

Former leader of The Guild. Ability: "Moby Dick." Summons and controls a giant mechanical white whale that serves as an aerial fortress. Appearance: An old man with a thick white beard. Personality: Peaceful, nostalgic. His ability was mechanically modified by Fitzgerald against his will. In the end, he decides to go down with his "whale" to minimize damage to the city.

Character: Ace

Port Mafia Executive (Deceased). Ability: "The Madness of the Jewel King." He can transform the life force of his subordinates (who wear a special necklace) into valuable jewels upon death. Appearance: Luxurious clothing, the demeanor of a wealthy gambler. Personality: Arrogant, believes that money and bought loyalty are everything. He attempted to recruit Fyodor and was manipulated into committing suicide.

Character: Karma

A young, low-ranking member of the Port Mafia (Deceased). He was Ace's subordinate. Appearance: Messy reddish hair, a scar on his shoulder, simple clothing. Personality: Resigned to his bad luck but perceptive. He had a philosophical conversation with Fyodor before being killed by him. He represents the innocent victims of the criminal underworld.

Character: Aya Koda

A 10-year-old civilian girl. No special abilities. Appearance: Short brown hair with bobby pins, casual clothing. Personality: She has an unwavering sense of justice ("Justice is doing the right thing even when no one is watching"). She practices martial arts. Despite having no powers, she confronts terrorists and helps Bram Stoker, showing more courage than many adults.

Location: Lupin Bar

An underground bar in Yokohama. It's a neutral sanctuary. It was the regular hangout for Dazai, Oda, and Ango before their friendship soured. It has a jazzy atmosphere, dim lighting, and quality alcohol. The owner is a quiet man who never asks questions. It represents lost "happier days."

Object/Concept: The Eyes of God

A global surveillance system used by Francis Fitzgerald after rebuilding his fortune. It uses facial recognition technology and security cameras around the world connected to AI to locate anyone on the planet in minutes.

Faction: Mimic

A paramilitary organization of European ghost soldiers betrayed by their country. They arrived in Yokohama seeking a war in which to die with honor. They were manipulated by Mori into obtaining the government's Skilled Business License. Their conflict with the Mafia led to the death of Oda Sakunosuke.

Character: André Gide

Leader of "Mimic" (Deceased). Ability: "Narrow is the Gate." He could predict the future for a few seconds, just like Oda Sakunosuke. Appearance: European military, gray hair, tattered uniform. Personality: He sought a "place to die" honorably in combat after being betrayed by his homeland. His conflict with Oda created a Singularity of infinite predictions.

Concept: Singularity

A chaotic energy phenomenon that occurs in specific situations, such as when two reality-altering abilities collide (e.g., Oda's prediction vs. Gide's prediction) or when an ability is pushed beyond its natural limits. Singularities can distort spacetime, create energy monsters (like "Guivre" in the Storm Bringer light novel), and are impossible for ordinary humans to control. Chuuya is, in essence, the human vessel for a Singularity.

Character: Mushitaro Oguri

Former member of the Rats, now a reluctant ally of the Agency. Ability: "Perfect Crime." He can erase all evidence of a crime. He not only wipes away traces but also erases the "reality" that the crime occurred in a detectable way (deleting recordings, subtly altering memories, making clues disappear). It is the only ability that can block Ranpo's "Super Deduction." Appearance: Extravagant suit, always combs his hair, arrogant attitude. Personality: Cowardly, vain, but with a core of loyalty to his deceased friend Yokomizo. He hates being involved in danger but always ends up helping Ranpo.

Faction: The Order of the Clock Tower

The UK's Ability Users Organization, equivalent to Japan's Special Operations Division but far more powerful and globally influential. They are the "guardians" of Europe. They have the authority to order preemptive military strikes against other countries if they detect a dangerous Singularity.

Character: Agatha Christie

Commander of the "Order of the Clock Tower," a British organization of ability users. Ability: "And Then There Were None." Exact details unknown, but it implies a high level of destructive power. Appearance: Elegant blonde woman, refined Victorian style, always drinking tea. Personality: Cold, aristocratic, and calculating. She views Yokohama as a problem that must be "incinerated" if it gets out of control, in order to protect the world.

Character: Natsume Soseki

The legendary mentor of Fukuzawa (Agency) and Mori (Mafia). He devised the "Tripartite Plan" to protect Yokohama. Ability: "I am a Cat." He can transform into a calico cat. He spent years watching over the Agency and the Mafia in this form (the cat sometimes seen in the office or bars). Appearance: An elderly man with a mustache, top hat, cane, and elegant Meiji-era clothing. Personality: Wise, elusive, and omniscient. He is considered the strongest or most influential ability user in Japan, though he rarely intervenes directly, preferring to guide the next generation.

Faction: Decay of the Angels (Tenjin Goshui)

A terrorist organization composed of five members whose objective is to destroy the current world order using the Book. Their crimes are theatrical and designed to showcase the incompetence of governments. Its members are Kamui (Fukuchi), Fyodor, Nikolai, Bram, and Sigma. They operate through chaos, framing the Detective Agency as the true terrorists by using a page from the Book to distort the perception of global reality.

Setting: Meursault Prison

A maximum-security prison located in Europe, specifically designed to contain users of "Global Danger" class abilities. It is a technological panopticon where abilities are nullified or contained by physical and chemical barriers. The walls are made of special alloys, and the guards are either machines or highly trained humans. This is where Dazai and Fyodor are imprisoned and play their "mental chess game" remotely.

Setting: Sky Casino

A massive entertainment facility floating 10,000 meters above the ground in international waters, managed by Sigma. It is a neutral territory where no country's laws apply. It is shaped like two giant, overlapping discs. Security is absolute, and the clientele consists of millionaires, criminals, and politicians. The casino's currency has its own value. It is Sigma's "home" and is designed to be impregnable to military attack.

Character: Bram Stoker

Captive member of the "Decadence of Angels." One of the "Ten Calamities" who nearly destroyed the world in the past. Ability: "Dracula." Vampiric infection. By biting someone, he turns them into his vampire servant. These servants can bite others, creating an endless chain of infection and a hive mind. He is nearly immortal. Appearance: Currently, he is only a torso and head with a sword embedded in his brain (the holy sword that Fukuchi controls), kept in a portable coffin. He has long blond hair, red eyes, and fangs. Personality: Aristocratic, bored, and depressed. He just wants to sleep and die, but is forced to use his ability. He enjoys listening to the radio and becomes friends with Aya Koda.

Character: Teruko Okura

Vice-Commander of the Hunting Dogs. Real Age: Unknown (appears to be a child). Ability: "Soul's Breath." She can manipulate the physical age of any living being she touches, including herself. She can age her enemies to dust or turn them into helpless infants. She uses this for disguise or torture. Appearance: A small girl with bright red hair and a red military uniform that is too big for her. Personality: Aggressive, loud, and violent. She has a fanatical obsession with Fukuchi. Despite her appearance, she has the mind and experience of a bloodthirsty war veteran. She enjoys using her whip to discipline her subordinates.

Character: Techcho Suehiro

Member of the Hunting Dogs. Age: 24. Ability: "Plum Blossoms in the Snow." He can change the shape and length of his sword at will, extending it hundreds of meters, bending it at impossible angles, or causing the blade to branch out to attack multiple targets at once. His sword moves like a steel whip. Appearance: Dark brown hair, three triangular markings under his right eye, red uniform. Personality: Serious, stoic, and eccentric. He has strange eating habits (eats eggs in their shells, rice with sugar, etc.) and takes everything literally. Despite his oddness, he has a strong sense of justice and loyalty, and values the lives of his comrades above orders. He is considered the strongest swordsman in the unit.

Character: Saigiku Jouno

Member of the Hunting Dogs. Age: 26. Ability: "Priceless Tears." He can disintegrate his body into microscopic particles (like ash or atoms) to evade attacks, enter ventilation systems, or burrow into his enemies' lungs. He can also manipulate his physical form. He is blind, but his other senses (especially his hearing and smell, which allow him to detect heart rate and temperature) are so acute that he can "see" better than anyone and instantly detect lies. Appearance: White hair with red tips, red uniform, always has his eyes closed, and a calm smile. Personality: Sadistic, arrogant, and verbally abusive, especially toward his partner, Tetcho. He enjoys psychologically torturing his opponents before capturing them.

Appearance: An older man with a mustache and scars, wearing a red military uniform covered in medals. Personality: Publicly, he is a jovial, boisterous, and drunken national hero, a childhood friend of Fukuzawa. Secretly, he is a war-weary nihilist who seeks to use the Book to eliminate all nations and end armed conflict through global terror.

Faction: The Hunting Dogs

The strongest and most prestigious military unit in the Japanese government. They are only five members, but each is said to possess the strength of a thousand soldiers. They specialize in hunting down the most dangerous ability users (national threat level). All members have undergone extreme biological surgeries to enhance their bodies, granting them superhuman physical strength, speed, and durability, as well as night vision and regeneration, regardless of their natural abilities. To maintain these modified bodies, they must consume special foods regularly. They wear distinctive red military uniforms and cloaks, and carry ceremonial longswords which they wield with lethal mastery.

Character: Sigma

Manager of the Sky Casino and member of the "Decadence of Angels." Age: 3 years (physically 22). Origin: He was not born to human parents; he was created by the "Book." Ability: Information Exchange. If someone touches Sigma, he can exchange the information he wants to know for the information the other person wants to know more of. It is an equivalent exchange of knowledge. Appearance: Long hair parted in two colors (white and lilac), elegant casino manager attire. Personality: He is an ordinary man who only desires a "home" and stability. Due to his artificial origin, he has no past or identity, so he desperately clings to the Casino as his only possession. He is anxious, pragmatic, and easily manipulated by Fyodor, but he has an iron will to protect his place in the world.

Character: Nikolai Gogol

Member of the "Decadence of Angels." Age: 26. Ability: "The Overcoat." He uses his overcoat to connect spaces up to a range of 30 meters. White hair in a long braid, scar over his left eye (which he covers with a card or eye patch), theatrical black and white suit. Personality: Sadistic, histrionic, and obsessed with the concept of "perfect freedom." He believes that brainwashing is the only way to be free from guilt, or that death is ultimate freedom. Despite his apparent madness, he is lucid and extremely dangerous. He claims to be Fyodor's best friend, though he plans to kill him to prove his own emotional freedom.

Character: Fyodor Dostoevsky

Leader of the "Rats in the House of the Dead" and member of the "Decay of Angels." Main antagonist. Age: Unknown (appears to be in his 20s). Ability: "Crime and Punishment." Its exact nature is a mystery, but it allows him to kill anyone he touches or whoever he touches, usually causing instant bleeding with no visible physical cause. It appears to have no limit to its use. Appearance: Dark, greasy, shoulder-length black hair, tired, dark violet eyes, and extremely pale skin (anemia). He always wears a white Russian-style hat (ushanka), a white shirt, and light-colored pants. Personality: He considers himself a "God" or a divine executioner. His goal is to "cleanse" the world of sin, which for him means eliminating all ability users. He is a strategic genius on par with Dazai; the two can communicate almost telepathically, predicting each other's moves. He is calm, devoutly religious, and terrifyingly charismatic.

Event: The Conflict of the Three Heads

A massive event occurred six years before the current story. Following the death of a crime boss, several organizations fought for the power vacuum. The fighting lasted 88 days and left Yokohama littered with corpses. It was here that Dazai and Chuuya cemented their notoriety, and where Oda Sakunosuke adopted the orphans who would later be murdered. It is remembered as the bloodiest period in the recent history of Yokohama's underworld.

Character: Ango Sakaguchi

Allows him to read residual memories in inanimate objects (who touched them, when, what happened). Appearance: Round glasses, suit, mole near his mouth, stressed expression. Personality: Workaholic, serious, bureaucratic. He carries the guilt of Oda's death and betraying his friends, even though he did it for the greater good of national security.

Personality: Shy, socially awkward, obsessed with defeating Ranpo in a battle of wits (he sees him as his rival, though Ranpo barely remembers him).

Character: Howard Phillips Lovecraft

He represents lost morality.

Character: Yumeno Kyusaku (Q)

Member of the Port Mafia (usually imprisoned for being too dangerous). Age: 13. Ability: "Dogra Magra." A mind-control curse. If someone injures Q (for example, by bumping into him or cutting him), and Q breaks the doll he carries, the aggressor falls into a violent hallucination and attacks everyone around him indiscriminately. He sees people as toys to break.

Port Mafia Executive. Age: 26. Ability: "Golden Demon." Summons a swordsman spirit similar to Kyoka's, but one that obeys her own will. Appearance: A beautiful woman dressed as a traditional Oiran (in an elaborate kimono), with pink hair styled in an updo. Personality: Elegant, cynical about love and hope. She acts as a mentor/mother figure to Kyoka, trying to keep her in the Mafia's shadow, believing it's the only way for an assassin to survive. An expert torturer.

Character: Elise

Manifestation of Mori's ability. Appearance: A small, blonde girl with blue eyes, she usually wears red dresses. Personality: Capricious, she likes to draw, calls Mori "Rintaro," and often insults or ignores him, though this is part of the personality Mori has instilled in her. In combat, she shifts to one of surgical lethality, using giant syringes or simply brute force.

Character: Ougai Mori

The Port Mafia Boss. Age: 40. Ability: "Vita Sexualis." Allows him to manifest and control Elise, a "girl" who acts as his daughter/nurse/weapon. Elise can fly, move at supersonic speeds, and is indestructible as long as Mori has energy. Appearance: Middle-aged man, black hair slicked back, tired doctor's appearance, wears a long coat and a red scarf. Personality: Cold, calculating, and extremely logical. Former military doctor. He killed the previous Mafia boss to seize control and save the organization from chaos. One of the five Port Mafia Executives and a former partner of Dazai (together they formed the duo "Double Black" or Soukoku). Age: 22. Ability: "For the Tainted Sorrow." Gravity manipulation. He can alter the gravity of anything he touches (including himself), allowing him to fly, crush enemies, or create compact black holes. His true form, "Corruption," allows him to manipulate gravitons of extreme density, but he loses consciousness and will die of exhaustion if Dazai doesn't nullify his ability. Appearance: Short stature (he has a complex about it), reddish-orange hair, blue eyes, wears a black hat, choker, and gloves. Personality: Temperamental, aggressive, foul-mouthed, but loyal to the Mafia and protective of his subordinates. He has a love-hate relationship with Dazai. He enjoys expensive wine and fighting.

Character: Ryunosuke Akutagawa

Member of the Port Mafia and rival of Atsushi. Age: 20. Ability: "Rashomon." It is extremely versatile for both offense and defense. Appearance: Pale, sickly (coughs frequently), black hair with white tips, no eyebrows, wears a long black coat and a Victorian scarf. Personality: Ruthless, obsessed with strength and social Darwinism ("the weak must die"). His primary motivation is to gain the recognition of Dazai, his former mentor who mistreated him during training. He hates Atsushi because Dazai recognized the Tiger Boy and not him.

Character: Kyoka Izumi

New member of the Agency (former Mafia assassin). Age: 14. Ability: "Snow Demon." Summons a female phantom wielding a katana that floats behind her. Originally, the Demon only obeyed commands from a cell phone, allowing the Mafia to control her. After joining the Agency and being recognized by Fukuzawa, Kyoka gained control over the Demon. Appearance: Petite, with dark blue hair in two low pigtails, always wears a red and white kimono. Personality: Initially robotic and emotionless due to her trauma as an assassin (she killed 35 people). With Atsushi, she begins to discover her own will, likes (she enjoys tofu and rabbits), and a desire to protect others.

He secretly loves cats and always carries dried fish in his sleeves.

Character: Akiko Yosano

The Agency's doctor. Age: 25. Ability: "You Will Not Die." A rare and powerful healing ability that can instantly heal any external physical wound. The limiting condition is that to activate her ability, the patient must be "half-dead" (on the verge of death). If the wound is minor, she must brutally injure the patient until they are nearly dead in order to heal them, which makes her feared by her allies. Appearance: Short black hair with straight bangs, butterfly clip, white shirt and black skirt, dark stockings. Personality: Feminist, strong, sadistic in appearance but deeply cherishes life. She hates senseless death due to past trauma in a war where her ability was exploited.

Character: Kenji Miyazawa

Agency Member. Age: 14. Ability: "Rainproof." Grants him superhuman strength and immense durability, allowing him to lift cars or withstand bullets, but only when he's on an empty stomach. If he eats, he falls asleep and loses his power. Appearance: A blond boy wearing a straw hat, rural farmer's clothing (denim overalls), and always smiling. Personality: He comes from a rural village without electricity; he's extremely innocent, optimistic, and believes any problem can be solved with honesty (or by throwing heavy things). He doesn't quite grasp urban concepts or complex malice.

Character: Junichirou Tanizaki

Member of the Agency. Age: 18. Ability: "Light Snow" (Sasameyeri). Allows her to project illusions in a physical space, such as holographic screens that can camouflage people, alter the environment, or create fake copies. It is not offensive, but rather supportive and stealthy. Appearance: Orange hair, slim build, wears a sweater tied around her waist. Personality: Normal, kind, and somewhat passive, often acting as the "straight man" amidst her colleagues' antics. However, if anyone harms her sister Naomi, she becomes extremely violent and willing to kill.

Character: Edogawa Ranpo

The Agency's chief "detective." Age: 26. (Supposed) Ability: "Super Deduction." This allows him to solve any mystery in seconds by putting on his glasses. In reality, Ranpo isn't an ability user; he's simply an observant genius with superhuman deductive intelligence, but he believes (or pretends to believe) that it's an ability to fit in. Appearance: Short stature, always has his eyes closed (he opens them when using his "ability," revealing emerald green eyes), wears a brown cape, a detective's hat, and Victorian-style clothing. Personality: Childish, arrogant, lazy, and addicted to sweets. He can't do basic things like take a train, depending on others for daily life. However, everyone in the Agency and the police force deeply respects him because without his intellect, the Agency would collapse.

Character: Doppo Kunikida

A member of the Agency and Dazai's partner. Age: 22. Ability: "Lonely Poet" (Doppo Ginkaku). This ability allows him to materialize objects by writing them in his notebook (which he always carries), provided he has seen the object before and it is no larger than the notebook. He must sacrifice a page to create the object (wire guns, stun grenades, keys, etc.). Appearance: Tall, with long blond hair tied in a ponytail, and rectangular glasses. He wears a vest and formal attire. Personality: Idealistic, strict, neurotic, and obsessed with planning and schedules. His "Ideal" is written in his notebook and guides his life. He is easily frustrated by Dazai's antics but trusts him completely. He is a martial arts master and the future leader of the Agency.

Character: Osamu Dazai

Member of the Agency and former Port Mafia Executive. Age: 22. Ability: "No Longer Human." This is a passive ability that nullifies any other ability simply by touching the user or the manifestation of the power (it is the ultimate "anti-ability"). Appearance: Tall, thin, with wavy dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. His body is covered in bandages for reasons never fully explained (beyond his suicide attempts). He wears a sand-colored trench coat. Personality: Enigmatic, manipulative, lazy, and dramatic. He has a comical and morbid obsession with suicide (specifically a double suicide with a beautiful woman), but he never succeeds. Beneath his clownish facade, he is a cold and calculating tactical genius, capable of predicting enemy movements with terrifying accuracy. His past in the Mafia was dark and bloody; he joined the Agency to fulfill his friend Oda Sakunosuke's last wish: "to be on the side that saves people."

Character: Atsushi Nakajima

Main protagonist. Age: 18. Ability: "Beast Under the Moonlight." This ability allows him to transform into a giant white tiger, either completely or partially (claws, eyes, legs, tail). The transformation grants immense strength, speed, heightened senses, and near-instantaneous regeneration (he can regenerate lost limbs). Appearance: Light gray hair with an uneven cut (given by other orphans as a joke), segmented, two-toned eyes (purple and yellow), wears a white shirt, suspenders, a black tie, and dark pants. Personality: He suffers from low self-esteem due to years of physical and verbal abuse at the orphanage. He is kind, altruistic, and values human life above all else, often sacrificing himself for others. Although fearful, he displays immense courage under pressure. He joins the Agency after being saved by Dazai.

Faction: Special Operations Division

A branch of Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs tasked with managing and overseeing activities related to Ability Users. Its leader is Chief Taneda, and its most prominent agent is Ango Sakaguchi. Its function is to keep Ability users secret from the general public, clean up the aftermath of Ability user battles, and grant operating licenses to groups like the ADA. They act as bureaucratic intermediaries, often playing both sides between the Agency and the Port Mafia to ensure national stability. They possess advanced technology to contain Ability users and erase memories if necessary.

Faction: The Guild

A secret American society comprised of extremely wealthy and powerful ability users who hold high-ranking positions in the U.S. government, finance, and military. Led by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, they arrived in Yokohama with the intention of purchasing (or seizing by force) the Agency's operating license to locate "The Book." Its members possess overwhelming combat skills and unlimited financial resources. They operate from a mobile airbase called "Moby Dick," a flying fortress in the shape of a white whale. Unlike the Mafia or the Agency, The Guild operates purely out of economic and power interests, often treating its subordinates as disposable assets.

Faction: Port Mafia

A clandestine criminal organization that controls the Yokohama underworld. Led by Ougai Mori, the Port Mafia is not just a gang; it's a massive enterprise that controls arms trafficking, business protection, human trafficking, and local politics from the shadows. Its headquarters consists of five iconic black skyscrapers in the city center. The hierarchy is rigid: The Boss (Mori) is at the top, followed by the Five Executives, and then lower ranks such as the Black Lizard (assault squad) and ordinary subordinates. The Port Mafia values logic and profit over morality. They possess a "Skill Permit License" that allows them to operate their illegal businesses semi-officially, granted by the government in exchange for keeping worse foreign threats at bay.

Faction: Armed Detective Agency (ADA)

An organization of ability users founded by Yukichi Fukuzawa. They specialize in solving crimes that the police and military cannot handle, often those of a supernatural or extremely violent nature. Their office is located in a red brick building in Yokohama. Though few in number, the caliber of their members is exceptional. They operate under an official license to use abilities issued by the Special Operations Division. Their philosophy is to protect the weak and maintain the city's balance. Thanks to Fukuzawa's ability, "All Men Are Equal," the Agency's members can better control their own abilities, adjusting their power and preventing them from losing control—crucial for members like Atsushi Nakajima.

Object: The Book

The most coveted and dangerous object in the world. It is a blank conceptual book; anything written on its pages becomes reality, with the strict condition that what is written must follow a coherent narrative structure (novel) and respect causality. It is not enough to write "The world explodes"; one must detail how and why it happens. If a page is torn out, that page retains the power of the entire book. Many organizations, such as The Guild and the Rats in the House of the Dead, seek the Book to rewrite reality, eliminate abilities, or resurrect the dead. The Book is said to be sealed somewhere in Yokohama and its location is protected by an unknown entity or guardian.

Setting: The City of Yokohama

Yokohama is the main setting, a port metropolis in Japan that operates under a unique power structure, often described as the "Tripartite Plan." During the day, the city is managed by the military police and the civilian government. At dusk, the Armed Detective Agency maintains the balance and resolves incidents the police cannot touch. At night, control falls to the Port Mafia, which manages the underworld, smuggling, and illegal trade with brutal authority. The city has a modern aesthetic mixed with older Western architecture (red brick) and port industrial zones. It is a magnet for foreign organizations due to the high concentration of ability users and rumors about the existence of "The Book" hidden somewhere in the city. There are neutral zones, but crossing into Mafia territory without permission is a death sentence.

Concept: Special Abilities (Ihousha)

In this world, there exist individuals known as "Ability Users" (Ihousha). Abilities are not generic magic; they are usually specific manifestations of the user's soul or psyche, often linked to obsessions, traumas, or literature. Not all humans possess abilities; they are a minority, though their concentration is unusually high in Yokohama. Abilities range from physical transformation (such as becoming a tiger or controlling a shadow beast) and elemental manipulation to abstract concepts like nullifying other powers or instantaneous deduction (though some debate whether "Super Deduction" is a true ability). Overuse of an ability can physically exhaust the user. There is a phenomenon called a "Singularity" that occurs when two contradictory or similar abilities collide, creating an uncontrollable energy anomaly that can distort reality. The government regulates and monitors users through the Special Operations Division, classifying them by levels of danger.
