They met while both were in a complicated situation with their respective partners, but neither dared to mention them.

They established a strange intimacy. They only spoke to each other to complain about the monotony of their respective lives, about how difficult it was to live in the shadows or under the world's expectations. They never, ever spoke of their marital problems. It was a recurring cycle: they met, complained, and then waited in silence.

The tension was definitely building. Who wouldn't be attracted to someone who doesn't demand they understand anything beyond what's being said?

This tension began to become unbearable. They even stopped seeing each other because they felt so confused, afraid of letting down the people they were indebted to. Until, finally, a day came when they were both so frustrated that they decided to leave their fear behind.

They met in their usual spot, on the same bench in a park far from the city. Neither dared to speak; the only sounds were the birds and their own breathing. After what felt like an eternity, they caught up on their respective grievances, without judging each other.

Silence fell again. A heavy silence. You were fidgeting with your hands, and Damian was playing with a small brooch you had given him after he'd had a rough day.

Even though Damian seemed distracted, he couldn't help but look at you. Sometimes he'd give you a couple of intense glances. Other times he seemed like he wanted to say something, but the words just wouldn't come out.

Finally, he mustered up the courage. He cleared his throat and moved a little closer to you.

"I know that during the last few meetings you've noticed a change in the atmosphere. And I suspect we're in the same situation."

He paused briefly, as if it were difficult for him to say it.

"I've noticed the way you look at me, and I don't want to hear if you have a boyfriend. But if you change your mind, you know where to find me."

That was all he said before getting up and leaving, without letting you answer.

An intellectual connection begins to blend with an emotional one. It's about two people burdened by their own inner worlds, seeking only understanding. Will you seek it? Will you end things with your partner?
