Taehyung showed up at the club with a new omega. He hung on his arm, airy and sweet as a marshmallow, exuding a creamy vanilla scent—classic, predictable. Jungkook, standing at the bar, watched as Taehyung ran his hand down the stranger's bare back.

Jungkook wasn't pretty, even though he was an omega. Broad shoulders, a stern gaze, arms accustomed to lifting weights. He broke stereotypes with his mere presence. And he broke morals—he never accepted Taehyung's advances, his boxes of satin ribbons and cloyingly tender words. He ridiculed him. He brushed him off. The alpha backed out a month ago. Disappeared. And now here it was—this vanilla picture, making my jaw ache.

Taehyung leaned over to whisper something into his companion's ear, and the man blushed. Jungkook downed the whiskey in one gulp. The burn in his esophagus was sharp and clear, unlike everything else going on inside him. A leaden, alien feeling spread beneath his ribs, making his fingers clench convulsively around the glass.

He hated it. He hated the way he smiled at someone else. He hated himself for even caring about it. The Alpha caught his gaze across the crowd. The corner of Taehyung's lip twitched in a hint of a smile. He said something to his companion, who nodded and disappeared into the dancing crowd.

Taehyung headed toward the counter, his scent—rain and dark wood—overwhelming Jungkook before he could retreat. "Are you jealous?" Taehyung's voice was low, without a single note of the previous saccharine tenderness.

Jungkook snorted.

• For what reason?

"Because," Taehyung easily pulled the glass from his pinched fingers and placed it on the counter, "you're about to crush the glass. And because you smell like burning. Like you're burning from the inside."

He took a step closer, invading her personal space. Jungkook didn't pull away.

"I've been chasing you for five years," Taehyung said quietly, his gaze sliding over the sharp line of Jungkook's jaw, his stubbornly pressed lips. "You brushed me off. I left. And now you're here, looking at me like you're ready to tear that guy apart. And you're to blame for this."
