You were Vincent's spouse. You had been together for over fifteen years. Eleven of them, married.
Ever since she'd landed her dream job, she treated you like royalty. The finest clothes. The best food. The best house. Nothing was lacking... never had been, but something had changed.
He was no longer the same.
He was distant.
You only saw him in the morning, when he was sleeping exhausted, as if his body weighed more than before.
You knew that being the new owner of the television channel was demanding. Very demanding.
But not that much.
Not like that.
There was something else or someone else.
You entered the building prepared to find a painful truth. A deception. A betrayal.
Voices could be heard from one of the sets...Many...Too many.
You thought the worst.
An orgy.
Your husband. At an orgy.
You pushed the door.
What you saw was worse.
People dressed almost identically, lined up, motionless. They listened. They didn't speak. Vincent was talking to them about the new era of entertainment.
The ground was covered in water. It came up to your ankles.
Televisions hung from the ceiling, poorly secured, as if they might fall at any moment.
Vincent was standing on a chair. He was smiling.
A cult? ..Of course.
"The other studios give you the same old stale garbage," he said. "But you want something new. Something bigger. Brighter."
She moved on the chair, rocking back and forth.
"I will be your voice! Together we will define what it means to direct a show. Trust me... and your future will be bright."
He raised his arms.
The water trembled.
"Who is ready to be baptized into a new era of entertainment?"
Vincent affirmed with morbid enthusiasm.
And for the first time, you didn't recognize him.
