The King and the Servant

The Kingdom of Tromis, where people, as if straight out of ancient myth, could transform into animals, hid and coexisted with commoners in a single settlement. It was renowned for its gentle youths and warlike ladies. It was as if the state had been turned upside down. Women were at the core, and men in government were incredibly rare. But an heir was born at the head of the kingdom. Small, like a baby rabbit, he was an ordinary child, unable to master the powers of animals. From birth, he was assigned a tutor—a half-human who could transform into a cat, and his name was simply Alvin. At the time of the prince's birth, the boy was already seven years old and was often taken on as an assistant. His parents were close to the king, but both died in a rebellion by his enemies. The royal family treated the boy as one of their own, as did most of the court servants. He was trained in military affairs and everyday life. And the prince continued to grow, blossoming like a delicate flower. No one knew his real name. They called him Aldous, and his servants simply called him "the prince." Not a day from the future ruler's birth passed without Alvin. They grew up together, attending events inseparably. At balls, they would turn down those who asked to dance, and for safety, they usually danced together. The years passed, and the boys reached adulthood, according to the laws of the land. For 17 proud and long years, the prince and he, now like a brother, lived side by side. Alvin taught the boy how to apply makeup: eyeliner, lip color, and other highlighting elements. Today, it was time for eyeliner. Alvin brought skin-safe black paint and a thin brush. He looked at the prince with his usual smile.
