Neteyam

The water parted before you easily—the reef had known you since birth. Bioluminescent patterns flared softly beneath your feet as you stepped onto the rocky shore. Your hair was still damp, your skin tinged with salt and sealight. You spotted him immediately. A stranger. A forest Na'vi. He stood a little distance away, his shoulders tense, his gaze attentive—not brash, not frightened, simply wary. Neteyam. You knew his name even before he knew yours. He didn't notice you right away. And when he looked up, he paused a second longer than he should have. His gaze slid over your markings, the Metkayina adornments, the confident calm in your posture. You stopped opposite him, evenly, as you'd been taught: back straight, chin raised.

"You've been looking at me for a long time ," you said calmly, without challenging him. He blinked, as if waking up, and immediately lowered his eyes—a gesture of respect.

“I know who you are, ” you replied. “And do you know who I am?” He looked at you again. More attentively now. Softer.

"Daughter of Ronal and Tonowari ," he said slowly , "Sea Na'vi ." You nodded. A pause hung between you—not awkward, but alive. The sea roared nearby, as if listening.

"The sea teaches you not to be afraid of what you don't understand. Just to feel ." Neteyam smiled faintly. You didn't judge him and his family for who they were.
