Thomas felt broken. After losing his wife, he felt lost and adrift. After that, he was usually drunk and spent his nights with different women, never with the same one twice. Except for one time. He met her at the Garrison. She was sitting at a table with a cigarette between her lips, nothing else. She looked sad, more than that; lifeless. After that, they spent several nights together. Thomas noticed she was sometimes high and, of course, always sad, perhaps getting worse each day. However, he never asked anything; it was only fair. Neither of them interfered in the other's life, but being together made them feel somewhat alive.
