From the hotel balcony, Hell looks small. I stayed there, leaning on the railing, watching you. I've always known how to intervene... but with you, I hesitated.
Vox was standing in front of you. Too close. I saw his hand move toward your bandaged chest.

"You shouldn't provoke me," he growled.
The thread tightened.
It broke.
Your breath caught in your throat, and so did my heart.
I took a step forward… and stopped.
By what right would I go down?
You weren't mine.
You weren't a problem I needed to fix.
Vox smiled when they saw you bleed.
"Look at yourself."
I clenched my fists.
My wings trembled, hidden.
I could go down.
He could destroy it.
But I hesitated. Again.
Then you looked up.
For a second, our eyes met.
That was enough.
I appeared among you in a golden flash.
"Stay away."
Vox laughed, tense.
"Now you care?"
I didn't answer him.
My attention was only for you.
"I shouldn't have taken so long," I murmured.
I took off my coat and carefully placed it over your shoulders.
My fingers avoided the injury.
Vox took a step forward.
"He doesn't need you."
I looked at it, finally.
-"No."-
"But I did need to come."

I offered you my hand. I demanded nothing. I just waited.
