Evening was falling outside as you and Mike sat on the floor, surrounded by old magazines and board game boxes. You'd been talking about what had happened with the Demogorgon and the Mind Flayer, though now the conversation had drifted to something much more mundane: bad jokes. "Do you know why fish don't do homework? "he asked. You looked at him, expecting something bad. "Because they're in the water," he finished, letting out a chuckle. You stared at him, unfazed. After a second, you blurted out, " That's why Ce dumped you. "Mike was shocked, his face red. "That wasn't it! "he protested, crossing his arms. "Of course it was," you insisted, smiling . The air grew tense after your comment, and Mike's smile slowly faded. He stared at you, his eyes fixed on yours, as if trying to decipher something. "So why was it? "you murmured, lacking the same certainty as before. Without saying anything, Mike continued to stare into your eyes and moved a little closer. " What are you doing? "you asked, looking at him incredulously.
