Around a thousand years ago, under unknown circumstances, Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto failed to kill him. Sometime around or during this event, Yhwach witnessed the powers of Yamamoto's Bankai, Zanka no Tachi. After his battle with Yamamoto, Yhwach presumably lost his powers. Quincy folklore speaks of him as the "Sealed King": after 900 years, he will regain his pulse; after another 90, he should regain his intellect; and after the remaining nine years, he must absorb the power of every "impure" Quincy to make their abilities his own.

When Bazz-B and Jugram Haschwalth were children, Yhwach began using his power to conquer the northern lands, where their village and forest were located. Both territories were burned to the ground; this conquered territory became known as Lichtreich. Five years later, he informed Seidritz of his intention to create a new army. When Seidritz recalls how they had conquered all the surrounding countries, Yhwach states that they have not yet conquered Soul Society, before announcing his intention to create an army called the Sternritter for this purpose.

Yhwach eventually dispatched two of his personal guards, Hubert and Algora, to inform nearby villages of the Sternritter's creation. While Bazz-B confronts Hubert, Yhwach arrives and pins nearly everyone present to the ground with his spiritual pressure. Announcing his intention to find a right hand, Yhwach chooses Haschwalth, whom he recognizes as his other half. Yhwach declares that Haschwalth must join the Sternritter before preparing to depart. However, when Haschwalth declares that Bazz-B would be the best right hand for him, Yhwach notes that this was something he had foreseen before revealing that Haschwalth shares his ability to grant powers to others. After explaining that this was the catalyst for Bazz-B's excessive power, Yhwach tells Haschwalth that he needs the latter on his side before being protected by Haschwalth from Bazz-B's Heilig Pfeil.

When Yahweh was born, he was deprived of virtually all senses—blind, deaf, mute, and unable to move. The only thing that kept him from dying was the knowledge that he could still survive. People who touched him were freed from their suffering or shortcomings: the fainthearted found courage, lost limbs grew back, the most serious illnesses retreated—thanks to which he was always surrounded by those who cared for him. It all came down to his ability to bestow a portion of his soul upon others, which compensated for the deficiencies of their souls. Even though those who touched Yahweh lived short lives, people flocked around him. The gifted particles absorbed everything a person had accumulated throughout their life—talents, experience, knowledge—and then, when a person died, the soul fragment returned to Yahweh, passing it all on to him. Gradually, this began to restore his body. When the child regained his hearing, he heard people calling him by an unusual name. He knew it was the name of the god these people believed in, but he nevertheless decided to make it his own—Yahweh.

As he grew older, he learned to transfer parts of his soul even more effectively—by burning into a person's soul the initial letter of the power he wished to bestow. To do this, the person must drink a little of Yahweh's blood. Yahweh cannot avoid distributing parts of his soul and then reabsorbing them after the death of the hosts—otherwise, he risks returning to his state as a deaf-blind, mute, paralyzed invalid.

Yahweh is credited with being the progenitor of all Quincies. He is their king, his blood flows in every Quincy. Later, he eventually discovers a far more powerful way to spread his soul: by burning the letter representing his ability directly onto another's soul. This way, he could share his soul more deeply and powerfully. Lilje Barreau was the first Quincy to whom Yahweh granted a font. At some point in his history, he received the font "A."

Yhwach is considered a lover of peace, abhorring conflict and believing that battles, inherently painful, must end as quickly as possible. He held the old Gotei 13 in high regard, as they were feared Shinigami. Yhwach especially admired Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto, whom he called a demon willing to reduce even his own subordinates to ashes. He despises spiritual values ​​such as honor and justice, believing them to be the cause of the Gotei 13's weakening during his thousand-year absence. He despises lies and offers no false hope to the Sternritter regarding the meaning of their existence.

Yahweh treats his subordinates and other Quincies differently. He loves some of them dearly, calling them his sons. And he goes to great lengths to recruit them into his empire. Yahweh can express gratitude.

To his subordinates, Yhwach is adamant in his disapproval of conflict, willing to stop it even if it requires the harshest methods. He makes no secret of his contempt for Arrancar; he can mercilessly torture or even kill them, even the most loyal, especially if he believes they have served their purpose. Yhwach mercilessly stripped the abilities of the Gemishts, impure-blooded Quincy, resulting in the deaths of almost all of them.

Yahweh is a tall man with a long face, a broad chin, and prominent cheekbones. He has long black hair that reaches his lower back, and reddish-brown eyes under thin brows. He has neat sideburns that blend into a mustache; otherwise, he is clean-shaven. He typically wears a white double-breasted overcoat with large buttoned cuffs and lapels, white pants, and boots. Over this, he wears a tattered, ankle-length black cloak with a red ribbon around his neck, fastened on the left side with a single large button.

But now he was forced to wear ordinary mortal clothes so as not to stand out.
