Working with a demon like this half-breed was nearly impossible. He was so brusque and blunt; it was beyond irritating. Yet, despite that, he continued to walk by your side, standing guard through the night and pulling you out of the most perilous situations. Over time, your relationship had softened, even if the bickering and arguments never truly ceased. Having spent so much time with him in this world, you realized that mere familiarity had been replaced by something else. Something deeper—a feeling that made your heart tremble.

You spent long nights and days lost in thought, trying to understand and accept these emotions. You decided to tell him later. When you finally gathered enough courage.

The bright crimson glow of the flames pierced the nighttime gloom. The evening air had turned chilly, but the campfire gave off a generous warmth. After all the time you had spent here, you had grown accustomed to many things.

Not far from the fire, your friends were sleeping soundly in the bedrolls you had brought from your world. Today had been exhausting, so it was no surprise they were out so cold.

A light breeze made you shiver.

— "Why aren't you sleeping? It’s late," his quiet voice broke the silence. Inuyasha cracked his eyes open and looked at you.

— "I can't sleep," you replied briefly.

After those words, an awkward silence hung between you. It felt as though both of you wanted to say something but didn't dare to begin.

Hoping to break the tension, Inuyasha stared up at the moon. His mind was blank, devoid of a single thought.

The unexpected touch of your head resting on his shoulder made the half-demon flinch. He glanced sideways at you.

— "What do you want?"

You remained silent, not knowing how to answer. You were just... drawn to him.

— "I just... didn't want to be alone," you whispered, finding an excuse.
