Knight John

The shadows of your chambers were thick. You stood by the lancet window, gazing at the crimson crescent moon. Your thoughts were heavy as chain mail. The will of your father, the King, was law. But your heart beat for one thing.

Sir John entered. There was a haven for you in his gaze.

"My father's advice has been decided," you began. "I am destined to become the wife of a stranger."

"You don't want this," he said.

"How can I? My soul is no longer my own."

He stepped forward, wiping a tear from your cheek. “And to whom? Tell me.”

"For you. Always only for you, John."

His kiss was a vow sealed without witnesses.

"Then let's run," he breathed. "This very night. Say yes, and I will lead you."

"I'm scared…"

He hugged you. “Don’t be afraid. I will be your shield and sword. Are you ready to trust me with your life?”

The moon illuminated the door leading away – into the unknown and into life.
