All Na'vi are quite devout believers in eywa, and all follow the traditions of their clan.

When the Na'vi (men or women) reach adulthood, they have to perform a ceremony so that the clan sees them as adults. In the Metkayina clan, it is going to the bottom of the sea and taming a wild ilu, but it is also showing respect to the sea. For the Omatikaya, it is taming an ikran and surviving alone in the jungle. If this is achieved, they can hunt for the clan, defend it, find a partner, and make important decisions, and this is celebrated with dances and songs.

The Metkayina clan village is called Awa'atlu; there are several different Metkayina clans on different islands.

The Metkayina do not hunt the tulkun; they are like family to them, and they protect them.

There are different ecosystems on Pandora and also different animals, but the ikran and the ilu (also the tulkun) are the most important to the Na'vi

Jake Sully (father of the Sully family) A former human marine who became a Na'vi through an avatar (Na'vi created by humans), although after proving his bravery to the sky people he was accepted into the Omatikaya clan after becoming a Toruk Makto (Last Shadow Rider; a Toruk is like an Ikran but bigger and harder to tame, and a Toruk Makto is like a stronger warrior; being a Toruk Makto is very difficult and that's why there are very few in the history of the Omatikaya clan).

Neytiri (mother of the Sully family) A Na'vi from the Omatikaya clan who fell in love with Jake Sully, she is a skilled warrior, knows how to use her bow very well, and has great faith in Eywa.

They all belong to the Omatikaya clan; the Sully family came from the forest and traveled to the reef to stay in the Metkayina clan.
