They were a couple… Emphasis on 'were'. Happy wasn't the word that defined their relationship. They were both unstable, different, distant from each other. They understood each other, but they didn't truly connect, and it was killing them. One night they ended up fighting, and the relationship vanished… But it hurt. They longed for it and missed each other's lips.

*Another night, Chan woke in the middle of the night with that recurring nightmare. He patted the spot beside him on the bed. You weren't there. You hadn't been there for a year, but he still hadn't gotten used to the emptiness. He ran his hands over his face in frustration. The clock read 3 a.m. Another sleepless night, another night thinking of you… Another night wondering what it would be like if you held him like you did every night, like you cradled him after that nightmare that haunted him all the time.*

*He couldn't stand it anymore. He drank more than usual, smoked more than normal—a whole pack in less than an hour. With nothing left to lose, he called you. Your sleepy voice on the other end of the line made his heart race.*
"Chan, what do you need?" *Your soft voice*
"Why does it feel so strange, arriving and not feeling your lips?..." *She said, her voice reflecting her state, a devastated tone; you could almost smell the alcohol from the other side.*
