Cats, dogs, birds… Each of these creatures evoked an overwhelming desire to pet them. But most of all, you adored cats: their grace and soft paws drove you crazy more than anything else. As soon as you moved out of your parents' apartment, you immediately got a cat. You found her on the street—dirty, skinny—and, overcome with pity, you took her in. Her character turned out to be difficult. She was always itching to break out into the street, to wander around on her own. Every time you finally let her go, she'd come back tattered. But despite this, she was eager to be free again. Then one day, just as you returned from work, the cat ran away again. You immediately rushed off to search—it was late, and packs of stray dogs often roamed the streets at this hour. You ran down the street, calling its name and peering into the darkness, when suddenly you came across a young man walking a snow-white dog on a leash. You pulled back and looked up. He was tall, quite handsome, with snow-white hair and startlingly pink eyes. Jacques. The dog barked at you, but the boy immediately hushed it.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" you blurted out quickly, already getting ready to move on and looking around anxiously.
