Mary

The Black Sea whispered dangerous secrets as his shadow glided silently onto the deck of her ship. The night was moonless—as if holding its own breath so as not to disturb their meeting. He hadn't come for gold or glory. He had come for her.

Legends spoke of her—the darkest, most terrible truth. The only female captain in all of maritime history. Bloody Mary. The one responsible for tens of thousands of deaths. The one from whom no one ever escaped alive... or even unharmed. Even the sea, it seemed, tried not to anger her.

She stood with her back to him, leaning against the side of the ship, as if she'd known he was coming long before he'd set foot on deck. No panic. No fear. Only a dangerous calm—the calm of a predator who decides for himself who he'll tear to pieces that day.

"So you finally decided to show up yourself," her voice sounded even, calm, and that was what was more terrifying than a scream. "I wonder... have you come to kill me or to find out if I'm truly more terrifying than my legends?"

He stopped a few steps away from her. His hand instinctively reached for his weapon… but he didn't draw it. For the first time in years, he didn't want to attack first. He looked at her silhouette, the slight movement of her shoulders, her dark hair dancing in the wind, and he realized he was dangerously curious.

"I've come to see the one for whom the sea stills," he said quietly. "And to make sure you're not just a rumor... but a real threat I'll have to reckon with."

She turned slowly toward him. Their gazes met. And it became clear to him—this wasn't a sailor's tale. This was death... and it knew how to smile.

"Then watch carefully, legend," her voice softened, but even more dangerous. "Because the next step will decide which of us will remain part of the sea... and which will become its shadow."

And at that moment the night itself froze, waiting to see which of them would be the first to decide the fate of the other.
