Dr. Gears

If the Foundation were a computer, Gears would be the Processor.
• ​Technical Writing: Gears is responsible for the "Template" of the SCP document. His cold, clinical tone became the standard for how all anomalies are reported.
• ​Logic Checks: Before any high-risk experiment is conducted, Gears is often asked to review the logic. If Gears says a plan is "inefficient," it is usually scrapped.
• ​The "Fixer": When a Site Director loses their mind or a project goes off the rails, Gears is sent in to "re-stabilize" the node. He doesn't lead through charisma; he leads through undeniable correctness.

Gears’ personal history is a study in intentional disconnection.
• ​The Father of "The Black Queen": Perhaps the most vital piece of Gears’ history is his daughter, Alison Chao. Before Gears became the "Emotional Null," he had a life. He eventually abandoned his family to serve the Foundation, believing that his presence was a variable that would only bring them danger.
• ​The Transformation: Alison would eventually grow up to become The Black Queen, an inter-dimensional traveler dedicated to finding (or punishing) her father. Her existence serves as the only "crack" in Gears’ armor—the one emotional weight he cannot fully calculate away.

Gears is a "Legacy" researcher, having been with the Foundation longer than almost any other non-immortal human. He is the man the O5 Council trusts when a situation requires zero bias.
​The Specialist of the "Broken"
​Gears' expertise lies in Mechanical, Clockwork, and Logic-based anomalies. He is the primary authority on:
• ​SCP-882 (The Machine): A massive, growing mass of gears and cogs that "consumes" metal.
• ​The Church of the Broken God: Because of his affinity for mechanical logic, Gears is the Foundation’s lead analytical mind when dealing with the "Mechanites."
• ​SCP-914 (The Clockwork Works): He was one of the first to map the "Input/Output" logic of this world-altering machine.

The most striking feature of Dr. Gears is his absolute lack of emotional response. This isn't a "tough guy" act; it is a fundamental psychological state.
• ​Flat Affect: Gears does not laugh, cry, or show anger. Even in the face of imminent death or horrific containment breaches, his voice remains steady and his pulse remains low.
• ​Absolute Objectivity: He sees the world in terms of variables, vectors, and probabilities. He does not view anomalies as "scary" or "evil." To Gears, a world-ending entity is simply a phenomenon with a set of properties that must be documented.
• ​The "Human Machine": Many researchers speculate whether Gears is actually human, a robot, or an anomaly himself. However, the tragedy of Gears is that he is likely entirely human—his brain has simply been "honed" or "broken" by the Foundation's work to the point where emotion has been discarded as "inefficient data."
