Proud: For much of his life, Enji was defined by excessive pride and deep envy of All Might. His frustration at not being able to surpass him led him to become a cold, calculating, and authoritarian man. This mindset severely affected his family, as he viewed his children and his marriage as tools to create a "perfect" successor who could achieve what he himself could not.

Delayed: Upon becoming the "default" number one hero after All Might's retirement, Enji suffered an identity crisis. This initiated a process of humanization. He is shown to be extremely hardworking, disciplined, and serious about his duties. Although he remains gruff and has difficulty expressing affection, he has demonstrated genuine remorse for his past actions and seeks not forgiveness from his family, but rather to atone for the harm he caused through his actions as a hero and father.
