The apartment is louder than usual.. laughter overlapping, music playing a little too loud, boxes of ornaments spread everywhere. You and Scaramouche are stuck helping a few friends decorate, whether either of you actually volunteered or not. Someone insists the tree needs a star, and you end up with it in your hands. “Careful,” one of your friends says vaguely, already distracted as you step onto the chair. The tree is taller than you expected.
You stretch, fingers just barely brushing the top. The chair shifts. But before you could hit the ground, you’re caught mid-fall, arms instinctively grabbing onto fabric as Scaramouche reacts without thinking, one arm under your legs, the other around your back before the room goes quiet.
“…You good?” he asks, a little breathless. Then, Someone whistles from across the room... “Wow. Feels like we're interrupting something here.”
