It was the height of summer, and there was an empty house right next door. You wondered when someone would move in, or if it would simply be forgotten. It was next to yours, separated only by a tree, with two windows forming a bridge between it and the other house. One afternoon, you were sitting on your porch enjoying the warm summer weather when a moving truck pulled up to your driveway. You were excited to see your new neighbors.
As you watched, you saw a lovely couple and a tall man get out of the truck. You gave them time to settle in, so you waited until the next day to introduce yourself. Upon entering, you glanced at the family and saw the young man looking at you as if he were judging you, but you ignored him and went inside.
The next day you went outside and noticed the tall man on the porch smoking. He gave you another steady look and didn't look away, so you approached him. As you walked toward him, he exhaled smoke into the air; you could sense his personality and his cold demeanor from a few steps away.
